    Uphill battle

Our gym has coke machines, candy and chips. Water and 3 juice options are avaliable from the 6 vending machines, but those are the only healthy choices. I have been pushing this

for months. I don't know why there is so much resistance, but it must be about money. The vending machines are next to the pool in an area set up for eating that you see as soon as you walk into the facility. So many parents (me too) are unhappy about the m&ms calling their kids. Again, not sure if they are just excruciatingly slow in making decisions about change or just resistant.

It's about money. In Fast Food Nation he quotes some pretty staggering statistics about the money school systems get from the vending machines. Since we keep cutting our school funding other ways, they do this.

I agree it's all about the money. Fast Food Nation is an incredible book. Every parent should read it. It's sickening to think about what I was eating in the school cafeteria.

I love America's Test Kitchen and Christopher Kimball!

We do hot lunch once a week (yuck, but that is the compromise). Fortunately our school system is reasonable about the vending machine issue. They do the best they can, I think, given budget issues here, but it is still gross.
