  • Irrational fears?

Do you have any? What are they?

I'm somewhat claustor...claustoph..clauster...Oh heck, I don't know how to spell it and I'm too lazy to look it up. Tight closed spaces scare me.

choking. My mom has a "malformed palate" and as a result she chokes- all the time. and has had to have the heimlich maneuver. As a result, I am so paranoid about choking that I don't chew gum without someone else around me, I don't allow eating in the car and I can't stand eating certain food items by myself (like steak).

I also won't allow Nikolai to eat anything too sticky unless Rick is home.

    yup- it's not healthy.

I'm also the worlds WORST car passenger as a result of being in a horrible accident in college.

Jenn-I'm the opposite...a bit agoraphobic...I'm not sure on teh spelling either. I must avoid Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana...Wide open spaces will cause a panic attack...I can't breathe...It also occasionally shows up in crowded places...the State Fair...crowded mall...I get panicky and have to leave.

DH didn't beleieve me until he saw it in action...thankfully its pretty mild, but I have had a full blown panick attack when I was in high school...at Old Faithful...way too many people...

I am deathly afraid of mice and rats. Bugs I can deal with. Snakes? Sure.

I also hate driving on high bridges. I always feel that this is the time I am going to get side-swiped by a large truck and go plummeting onto the ground or into the water below.

I don't mind roller coasters or bungee jumping, but I do not like being unrestrained in some way at heights. Even some homes that have a very open loft or walkway on the second story freak me out a bit.

I HATE DOGS! They scare me too. Even the little ones. I can make myself okay around some of them, but not really. I was attacked as a child. I hate that everyone thinks that you have to like dogs. I don't like dogs, and please keep them away from me. Thank you!

Escalators (going down). I use them, but still stutter step when I get on them.

Aquariums. It just is not natural to have tons and tons of water pressing against glass .... one day it will break, and I'm not going to be standing under that shark when it does.

Other people (including dh) driving my children around when I'm not in the car. No problem IF I am in the car b/c in my morbid little fantasy life I will be able to die right along with everyone else ... but the idea of something happening to my kids and I'm NOT there??? Oh, no, no.

This may sound weird but I have a big fear of falling face forward down a set of stairs and knocking all my front teeth out.

I am also afraid of heights. I have a hard time looking up at super tall buildings. So living in NYC is easy

ABSOLUTELY FEAR Public restrooms. I have gone a whole weekend once without using the ladies room b/c it was ::

Mostly I fear having something happening to my children. I wont share my sick thoughts....but they are not nice. I HATE WATCHING THE NEWS!

I also fear not being alive long enough to see my babies grow up to have a family and career of their own.

Im not afraid to die, just afraid of the way I die.

                  Spiders!

Snakes, fine - most bugs, fine but get me anywhere near a spider and forget it - my DH thinks I'm nuts! 8)

Snakes - omg! I was running on my lunchbreak the other day and one slithered across the path...I thought I was going to simultaneously pee my pants and have a heart attack. I'm so freaked out I don't go anywhere near that path now!

Heights when not in an enclosed area (I would have a hard time sky-diving, and climbing is also probably out)

I, too, am more fearful of what lurks around the corner as far as my daughter's safety is concerned. I'm even more concerned about wanting to keep her safe from the world but striking a balance so I'm not a control freak and she still has a life.....

Social situations that involve "mingling" with strangers, or worse, people I know just barely. Ugh, small talk!

                            Snakes.

Rats, spiders, bugs, what have you are fine. Snakes -- can't do it. I do my best to not FREAK out around them so my kids aren't afraid.

Claustrophobia. I never had a problem with it until I got pregnant. The first time it got me, DH and I were at a museum in Chicago. We were taking a submarine tour when suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe, and then I passed out. I don't really panic, but instead I feel like I'm suffocating, and then if I can't get out and into some circulating air, I pass out.
