  • Favorite Handy-Dandy Gadget

What is your favorite, can't-live-without-it, handy-dandy tool, toy or gadget? This could be anything from your baby's exersaucer to the rubbery round gripper thing that helps you open jars to an as-seen-on-tv item like the EggWave, Thigh-Master or OxiClean.

My mind automatically drifts to kitchen items, but I think depending on when you asked me, my answer would vary. This month, since it's been a little too cool to fire up the real grill and I've been cooking meals that only I eat, my gadget would have to be my George Foreman Indoor Grill.

My chariot stroller. Ever since we got rid of the car, Nikolai and I do everything via feet. (and with gas prices the way they are, we are the wiser members of the family) If we go to the grocery store for a big load, I load the groceries in the stroller and he and I walk home.

We walk five miles every day (see dog column, re: Border collies- the Cattle Dogs also need a ton of exercise everyday- and I mean EVERY day- rain, snow, sleet, ice. As the website says, "a bored heeler is a destructive heeler...") and it contains Nikolai but also lets him have a lot of room so we can bring toys- he is covered from the elements as it has a screen and also a sun shade and a rain cover. yeah, it's stupidly expensive but a lot cheaper than a car!!!

Nikolai gets his exercise in the courtyard, but dog and I need the miles!

The mirror that I have mounted on my bathroom wall that allows me to see the back of my head when I am doing my hair.

The liquid laundry detergent in the great big container that has its own dispenser.

My HUGE bulletin board, on which I immediately place all papers of importance.....snack schedules, sports schedules, slip from the library that tells when books are due, notes/reminders from teachers, etc. I don't know what I would do without a place to put all that STUFF!

On the analog side...the flip brush with mirror handle. I use it all the time...not that you could tell by looking at me, but...

            1. Bobike (baby carrier that goes on the front of the bike)

            2. Digital SLR camera...don't own one, but recently borrowed a friend's and fell in love. I am sooo tired of the delay that regular digital cameras have. :-

You guys aren't talking about the musical instrument, are you?
I think I'd have to go with my Swiffer WetJet. I can't remember the last time I've used a traditional mop.
Next, I'd have to say the Reach flosser (I can't remember what it is called)--you just pop in the little plastic thing with floss on it and it has a long handle to make flossing way easier.

Electrical ones: massage chair and foot massager. Both were bought for DH's birthdays but it's hard to say which one of us loves them more.

Non-electrical: Le Creuset grill pan. George Forman doesn't even come close. It's my most used pan/pot and food cooked on it tastes so good and so easy to make, there's no need to go out.

Mine makes me fear for my tender, girly fingers.

Microplane grater. It truly is an indispensable kitchen tool. Every kitchen needs one, IMO.

The microplane grater is at the top of my kitchen gadget list along with the Y-shape peeler. I don't think I could live without my chef's knife. It is indispensable...and in desperate need of a sharpening. Add that to the what I should be doing thread.

I like mandolines too and as Julie does, fear for my fingers. Yow!

                              I need a bulletin board like Sally's.
