I was just telling DH that you guys are probably the only group of women among whom my ring will actually be considered big. We didn't pick out the ring together but I bombarded DH for close to a year with pics and descriptions of what I wanted. He brought all the pics (can't believe he actually saved them) to the jewerler, who then designed the ring. I wish I had a good pic of it, but it's similar to an anniversary ring but the stones are princess cut and the center is a bit bigger than the sides. I also wanted a deeper setting, which I thought was more practical and made the design look a bit antique'ky. DH was still in med school when he proposed, so he had to increase his student loan the year he bought the ring. The proposal was somewhat a surprise, as he was so nervous the few days before that I knew something is up. He's also really bad at keeping secrets. Not saying anything from August (when he ordered the ring) to November (when he proposed) was more than he could handle.

My DH picked out my ring himself and I love it. It's a 1-carat round solitaire in a 6-prong platinum setting, and probably exactly what I would have picked out for myself! I knew the proposal was coming, but I didn't know any details. I happened to be at his house one day and saw the ring box sitting on his desk, but managed to actually have the self-restraint not to open the box and look at it!

Believe me, I was SOOOO tempted. But then I thought about how much less exciting the proposal would be if I already knew what my ring look like. But it was very, very hard!

Rick got mine on eBay. Seriously, from a guy who ran a website called "Pink Beaver" and yes, that's EXACTLY what he was talking about. Showed up wearing a "Pink Beaver" baseball hat.

Seems his girlfriend dumped him before he could propose.

          Hmmm, I can't imagine why.

and yes, it was a total steal...it's one carat center stone that had two princess cut stones and four smaller rounds. We got new wedding rings - well, I got one to match his for our first anniversary so I had the engagement ring restyled to a right hand ring. Of course, now my husband doesn't wear his original wedding ring because it's too big. Now he wears his med school ring as his wedding ring and I'm tempted to go back to my original band because this one gets too filled with lotions and soaps. Sentimental, we are not.

That is a very sweet story, Krystal!

I think DH and *may* have had a conversation about rings, but I can't exactly remember. Mine is a princess cut, so I am thinking I must have told him that was the cut I preferred. It is very small, like between a fourth and a third of a carat, but it means a lot to me because DH spent all the money he had on it, which still is really romantic to me. After we got engaged, we didn't really have any fancy dates (or even go out to dinner) before we got married because both of us were students and were saving every penny for the wedding/honeymoon.

Recently, however, my aunt (who I am very close to) gave me her diamond ######## ring. Her arthritis is so bad that she can't wear it any more. This thing is HUGE! DH and I are thinking about taking the diamonds from this ring (or some of them, at least) and having a new ring made, incorporating my original diamond, of course! My aunt knows that this is our plan and is as excited about it as we are. I will keep you posted, if I ever have time to actually find a jeweler and get it done.
Here is a picture of both rings:

Sounds like a great idea, Sally. Can't wait to see the final product.

I didn't pick mine out but DH knew what I wanted, a solitaire. So I got a 1-carat solitaire in a gold cathedral setting. My wedding band is just a plain band. My only regret is that it isn't in silver b/c I find myself wearing more silver these days. I think when we're post training we'll probably have it reset in the EXACT same setting except silver and add an anniversary band to give it some more stones. But I too wouldn't change it, I love how the cathedral setting shows the stone off, I receive compliments on it all the time and DH picked it out all by himself.

We picked my e-ring together but I'm sure he would've done a great job by himself too. He knew I wanted a round brilliant stone and I liked the style of a ring I got from my grandma. In any case, here's a photo of it. I have yet to photograph it on my finger because I hate my short fingers.
