I was essentially raised as an only child, but was always taught to say that I do have a brother, but he died when he was 3 months old (he was younger than me - I was 3 at the time).

My mother desperately wanted children, had 5 miscarriages in addition to the brother who died, so if you think I wasn't raised to believe the world rotated around me - you're nuts. I was about 10 before I realized that everyone didn't know when it was my birthday.

      Youngest of a blended family.

Dad had 3 boys and a girl.

Oldest just turned 70. Born in 1936. I was 1968. Yeah.

Mom has 3 boys and 4 girls.

      Oldest just turned 65?

Closest in age to me is my sister who is 48? She's a grandma. Her daughter is perhaps the coolest neice I have. Neice is a nurse and SO normal.

My Dad's kids were all adults when I was born, and my mom's youngest 4 were at home, but all were moved out by the times I was in kindergarten, so I was basically an only child.

I'm the middle and have one older brother and one younger sister. And we are all about 2 years apart. My brother and I are 5 days apart in August and my sister was born in September.

          We are

          35 -- brother
          30 -- me!
          26 -- brother

Except for a few years of strife between older bro and me when we were little kids, we've always all liked each other. I like both being a middle child and having a large age spread, and don't understand how both of those things got such a bad rap.

I am the oldest (big surprise, right?) and have 3 younger sisters, and a younger half-brother and half-sister.

            Here's the breakdown:

            Me: 1968
            Sister #1: 1970
            Sister #2: 1974
            Sister #3: 1976 (now deceased)
            Half-Sister: 1980
            Half-Brother: 1983

So I come by my need to take care of EVERYONE very honestly, because that is what I have done my whole life!

I am the middle of three. My sister is 5 1/2 years older and my brother is 8 1/2 years younger.

I'm with you, Julie. I liked being the middle child and loved the big age spread. There was never any sibling rivalry and, despite the age difference, we are all very close.

I am the oldest of three original siblings. I have a younger sister and brother. I also have two step brothers and two step sisters. Unfortunatly when you factor in the steps it makes me the middle child which makes for a horrible identity crisis and a whole lotta battle for turf. :argue: To bad I quit caring about them and started my own family :P
