Dream Vacation

So, in my obsession to travel, I have about 15 places that I HAVE to go. I want to go someplace fab for my 40th, then my husband turns 40 the following year, you know the drill. There's always a reason to celebrate!

I'm interested to hear about everyone else's dream vacation. This is a dream- no talk of but we can't because of the dawkter/resident/student schedule, or finances, or kids or any of the other reasons why people say they can't go.

Here's what I want to know:

Where do you want to go, what do you want to do there and who are you with. or if you have more than one version of the Dream Vacation, let them fly! (i.e. the kid-free vacation, the couples only vacation, the extended family vacation, the group of friends vacation)

My dream vacation would be around six weeks spent on a round the world trip. My current list of stops is: (traveling East to West): France (south & east), Germany (Berlin) by way of Luxembourg, Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar), Japan (Tokyo), Fiji (non-US one) and Brazil. It would be me and my dh (no kids, if we have them), we would travel via airplane and train. What would we do? Wander, take in the culture via food, architecture, osmosis, etc. I like to take things as they come, no strict calendar, just whatever we felt like and what the day had in store for us.

Kid-free: I want to go to either Greece or Italy with my dh. I picture us spending leisurely days wandering around beautiful, historic cities, having an impromptu picnic lunch at random locations, etc. No agenda, really, and I want it to last about 2 weeks.

With kids: We actually want to rent an RV for a few weeks and tour around cool places in the US. Again, no specific agenda. I suppose we'd head West, my dh has been to several national parks out that way and I'd love to take the kids there to camp, hike, etc.

A fabulous 12 day cruise on the Mediterranean on a luxury liner. Of course we'd have a suite with balcony and the cruise would have some celebrity chef cooking our meals. We'd see the historical sites during the day and then return to the ship for a leisurely swim and a gourmet dinner with dancing under the starts afterwards. For itinerary anything will do as long as there are stops along the French Riviera and Italy.

There are LOTS. Two that come to mind are sea kayaking in Fiji and going to Nepal again, this time with DH and with more time in Thailand.

I would have lots too, but two that come to mind are a 14 day mediterranean (sp?) cruise with my DH and a two week trip to Ireland, Italy, Rome, Paris, etc. Both of which would be a lot of relaxing and enjoying good food and good wine.

Once we have kids and they're old enough I want to go on a Disney cruise.

Here are some of mine:

Without the Dude: Two and a half Weeks of Beer: Start out in Shannon, Ireland for a weekend, then off to Dublin for a few more days. Ferry to England and make our way across the Old Sod. Take the Chunnel to Paris, have a day or so of good food and good wine. Then train to Germany for the remaining days and end up in Munich for Oktoberfest (which I realize is 90% for the tourists but I'll be a tourist so who cares!) (i'm going to try to manage this one for Rick's 40th birthday next year)

For my 40th, I really want to go to Croatia, specifically the Dalmation Coast. I want to explore and see and relax and spa, etc.

With the Dude: Definitely a return trip to Russia, probably more than once. I didn't see anything in Moscow except the American Embassy, the inside of the Marriott and the road to and from the Airport, the Embassy and the Marriott. and St. Petersburg will be a whole seperate trip. I'd also like to take him back to Siberia to see where he came from.

I'd also like to go to Scandinavia. I think it would be awesome to spend Christmas there.

Disney is on the list, probably with my brother, SIL and nephew unless we can convince my parents to take the boys...

I'd love to explore the West Coast- I've never actually been in LA except to land at the airport, my time in San Diego was spent at work, as was my time in San Jose and San Francisco. I'd also love to get to Oregon and go back to Seattle. (Ft. Lewis is in Tacoma so we could get there via the Army but... who knows)

That's just some.

I'd also love to see the other continents as well!

PS- I've been to Ireland, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, St. Martin, and the Bahamas. There's a whole lot more world out there!!!

Sounds good! You could have a great vacation on the Oregon coast.

I like your list, Jenn!

My grandmother had the travel bug in a major way when she and my grandfather retired. They were immigrants and even though they loved the US, they wanted to see and experience the world. I think the bug skipped a generation (my parents don't travel much) and hit me hard!

My grandparents went to Mexico to see the ruins. Europe. Egypt. India. Australia. Those are places I would LOVE to go. I've been many places in Europe, to Tunisia (Carthage!), and Japan, but a couple places are really intriguing to me, like Mexico to see the ruins. New Zealand for the beautiful scenery. Hawaii (I've been there numerous times, but it's so beautiful).

Actually dh and I want to travel to a few more places before kids. We're trying to plan a vacation to California for July and in a year to Japan to visit my relatives.

We're currently planning a trip to the Southwest US and all those National Parks. It would be nice to NOT do it in the summer, but the school schedule rules our vacation times.

Dream ideas: I would love to get a suite on that cruise ship that sells its rooms like condos after retirement. From what I read (ages ago) it travels slowly around the world. That would be amazing to do for a year or so when neither of us is working, the house is paid off and we have some investment income from retirement savings. Hopefully, we won't be feeble then!

Until retirement, my dreams are simple. Peace, quiet, 70 degree weather, dry and sunny. Could be a beach or a meadow. A big stack of books, DH and a waiter to bring us drinks and snacks. Ahhh. We did a Disney cruise with the kids this spring, and it's a perfect family vacation. Disney is good at family entertainment and still keeps the adults happy. I'm saving for another one. They are doing the Italian Riviera next year. That could be a blast.

DH would LOVE to rent a castle in Ireland!

I would love to do the coastal drive and visit the vineyards in CA.

Oh and I want to go to Japan as a tourist, I've been there on business and it really is a very cool country!
