  • Anyone out there have fibrocystic breasts?

    Hi there,

I wondered if anyone else out there has been told they have fibrocystic breasts. I went to my ob/gyn a few days ago after experiencing a month of severe breast pain in one breast. Normally I have some soreness right before my period, but this pain was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. Even wearing a bra hurt. I can barely lift up my arm without cringing in pain, and even the slight pressure of a bra against my nipple is very uncomfortable.

I'd been told before that I have fibrocystic areas in one (this particular one) breast, but it was as if this month these areas really flared up. It's still going on.

My gyn said there was nothing wrong with the breast, just that the likely explanation for this month of severe and atypical pain is that my hormone levels were messed up due to stress, i.e. more estrogen to progesterone, which can happen because of stress, among other reasons.

I've been reading about fibrocystic breasts, and it appears that there's nothing medically to be done if you don't have any cysts to be drained, like me. My doctor basically said to cut out caffeine (which I already had been doing) and also to take vitamin B6.

Are there any home remedies or other ways to self-treat this that others are doing? I haven't had caffeine in years, so that's not the issue. I've been reading that cutting out a significant amount of dietary fat can help, as can taking evening primrose oil.

Anyone else have this kind of pain, and if so, what do you do about it? What is the nature of your pain? I have never experienced anything like this, and it's quite frightening, though I feel reassured by my gyn that there's nothing bad going on.

So this thread has gotten 60 views and I keep reading that at least 40% of women have this condition.

If you have it, and you don't want to post publicly, please PM me! I'm in pain and I need to start trying some home remedies!!!!
