Ghana DID look good. The US looked really bad. I think they could have done better with out the penalty kick (what kind of bullsh*t call was that?). They lost all their confidence going into the second half.

Dh was rooting for the US ("Vollidioten" is what he called us towards the end, Kris!).

But Ghana did hustle. They were awesome. We got some bad calls, though. The World hates us. :> I guess that includes refs. As always, I blame GW Bush. :>

        Ghana

haha, it can't all be the President's fault

Anyway, from here on out I'll root for Ghana, because that way, if they win it all, the US will have lost to the winner, which isn't so bad!!

Ghana really hustled. I noticed that too. If it was one of them vs. one of us with chasing down a ball, we had no chance. They played really well, and I just couldn't believe how gorgeous some of those players are. Beautiful hair, beautiful skin, and such wonderful joy written all over their faces.

I've got to root for Germany now since dh was such a good sport about the US today...

Yup, my students are in college, but LOVE games. My brother is the same age as most of my students and he's always told me that I need to make things competitive, applicable to real life and fun. I just didn't realize that they'd be *this* competitive!

That's pretty similar to what dh was saying, Alison...and he was also rooting for them....most of our extended family in germany was too...and of course, I was hoping against hope that they would pull it out.

They didn't even make it past these first rounds this time around and now we'll have to wait 4 more years for them to try it again. I was hoping that they would qualify and move up so that interest in soccer in the US would pick up more....they looked...weak.

I agree Kris. If we had made it a bit further, we could have gotten a bit more interest in the game. Like 4 years ago when we made it to the quarterfinals.

I wonder if anyone's watching Germany and Sweden. If they had started just one hour later, you might be able to actually see what's going on in the game. The camera just can't adjust to the sunlight.

What a boooooring game. I didn't like that little rat of a referee who red-carded the Swedish player. Germany looked really good today. For my students I xeroxed a Focus magazine article (like Newsweek) that Tim Borowski, one of the German players wrote. He talks about growing up in East Germany, what the World Cup meant for him in 1990 after reunification, how he was recruited to a soccer team, etc. etc. Today he played for 3 minutes and had to be carried out on a stretcher. And there I was telling my kids to watch out for him in the World Cup.

Hi Kris: I just looked up the article and by now one has to pay for it to pull it out of the archive. Let me see if I can scan it for you though. It's just a one page thing called: Was ich persoenlich von der WM erwarte.

We're sitting down to watch France and Brazil go at it. Any one else? The winner plays Germany (hopefully--if they can beat Italy on Tues).

OK...OK.....done licking my wounds over the USA loss. We are rooting for Italy and England now. (Sorry all you German folk!)

Who are you rooting for - France or Brazil?
