thanks Cheri. I was just sent an email about this the other day, but didn't read it assuming I already knew about breast cancer. I didn't know about this kind.

A friend of mine has this. She was only 35 when diagnosed. Her husband was two years ahead of DH in residency, and then did a fellowship in gyn-onc. She had what she thought was a rash on her breast and they were enlarged. Her doctor thought she had mastitis (although she was not nursing) but her husband insisted on a biopsy. She was diagnosed in March of 2005, did several rounds of chemo and had a double-mastectomy last August. They were stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS......so when the base was decimated by Katrina, they were temporarily relocated to St. Louis, all while my friend was doing radiation and more chemo. They are now stationed in Hawaii. She has had all of the radiation she can ever have. I haven't heard an update lately.....they have been in Hawaii about six months. She has two kids.....a son the same age as my oldest (11) and a daughter who is about to turn 9.

She was my rock and my go-to person during residency.......so full of life, yet able to be honest about residency and how much it sucks. She is half-Guatemalan and so beautiful. If you think of it, say a prayer for Mary Whitcomb. She is on my mind every day.

That is so sad, Sally. You'll have to let us know how she is doing when you hear.

Yikes. I had never heard of that before. I asked DH and he said he has done a few biopsies to rule it out (all negative).

I'm amazed that as much as we hear about breast cancer we've barely, if at all, heard of this. Hopefully the word gets out. I got this in two seperate e-mails today from two seperate groups of friends so its making the rounds.
