  • How many times have you moved?

As an adult, how many times have you moved? This does not include any moves with your parents!

Me, nonmilitary: 9 moves in 10 years. Two of those moves were cross-country. One was by ourself in a U-haul. Both times with kids.

I'm counting any time you had to box up your stuff and put it into a truck and haul it somewhere else. So, yes, same city counts, but please tell how many times you've moved great distances if you so desire!

7 times since I was 21. 3 were from one apartment to another all in the suburbs of Cleveland. then to California, then back to Cleveland to live in sin w/dh (then SO). then the infamous "Cleveland Money Pit", and now KC.

This is "home" number 10 that I've unpacked. I've hit 5 states/new cities since leaving home in Florida. We've sold 3 houses. I'm hoping this is one of our last moves - but I'm not ruling out an intra district move or a post-kids move to a new place.

Not counting college-related moves, I have moved 7 times since age 21. The biggest moves were from Indianapolis to San Antonio, and from Wichita Falls to our current home. Moving from San Antonio to Wichita Falls was a cakewalk, comparatively, although it was 6.5 hours north.

We have also sold 3 houses, and I imagine we will sell at least one more while we have kids at home.

I haven't moved that much -- 7 times if I count my college apartments. We were in our last house for 8 yrs. I anticipate a move again in 1-3 years. I hope that will be to the longer-term house.

11Xs since moving out of my parents' house. The longest I've lived in one apartment was 2 years. I hope to top that since I bought the house last October.
I liked apartment hunting and looking for different spaces. I figured there was a reason leases were only for 1 year. The downside to being a good mover and packer is that your friends always call on you to help when they need to move. I don't mind it, actually. Only in July, August, December, January and February.

ETA: I've only lived in 2 cities since moving out of my parents' house: Troy, NY and Philly.

When I was single I used to change apartments every year or two.
My friends would come down and help me load and unload the truck in exchange for pizza and beer.
When we got married, we both moved into our apartment, and since then have only moved twice more.

Living in NYC really discourages frequent moves, what with paying a broker's fee to find a new place each time (at least during the dot-com thing).

                    Since college I've lived in

                    Queens apt #1
                    Queens apt #2
Moved husband out of his Bronx apt into Queens #2 with me
                    Brooklyn apt
Evanston apt (just a few weeks ago)

In his ten years in NYC, my husband either lived or worked in every borough except Manhattan.

This last move was the biggest and also the least stressful, because we finally know what we're doing and because we finally hired movers. I don't mind packing my own boxes, but I hope it is many years before I have to deal with another truck rental.

I've moved 3 times since graduating college....and this upcoming move (in one week) will be my 4th, but this is the biggest, since a) it's the first move DH and I have done together, and b) it's the first time I will be living on a new coast. So definitely an exciting move.

This is our 3 place together in the past 6 years. Planning for move #4 next summer.

I didn't count moving twice a year for 4 years of college (in/out of the dorms).
