  • It's always something...

Boy, this moving constantly thing sure is fun, huh?

As I was speaking to our lovely Jesher this morning, my realtor called to confirm that the woman who was going to buy our house today has now decided to not buy it because the basement leaked. (Remember the 10+ inches of rain DC got?) and has hired an attorney. I'm not sure how she's going to actually get out of the contract because there is no damage to the house from the water. So, the realtors have brought in their big guns, I have reconnected the gas and electricity, and I have basically told the realtors here in TX to hold off on thinking that we're buying anything anytime soon.

The good news is that I've located our stuff and it's actually ON a moving van somewhere between Dallas and here. Maybe I'll get to sleep in a real bed tonight. ah, the novelty.

The upside of not selling is that Gary, my fab realtor in DC reports that 1) rents are going through the roof because no one is buying right now and people have to live somewhere and 2) there have been a ton of great articles about our section of DC and how it's the next Big Thing. So, hanging on to it and renting it while we build more equity isn't a bad thing. If we can find a non-crack smoking renter (something we were unable to do here) then life can proceed somewhat as planned.

I'm so glad that I don't eat when I'm stressed. I do need new running shoes though. There have been some very determined walks along the RiverWalk this week.

Ah, Stella, there's the fun part- we're already in Texas and will be for the forseeable future.

So, if you know anyone who wants a house in SW DC, future home to the DC Harborplace....

Sorry that call wasn't good news! I know the pain of home ownership from a distance.

I do hope that your bed arrives soon. You can drink yourself into oblivion and then pass out on it.

And ... I'll do some emotional eating FOR you! That's just the kind of girl I am.

That really sucks--I imagine it is pretty standard for any type of basement to leak when you get that much rain?? I hope it all works out for the best. Who knows, maybe if you hang on to it and rent it you'll make a ginormous profit off it at a later date.

I was worried about that. I think buyers get nervous that they have accidentally bought the Money Pit. Anything happening that could suggest a problem at the last minute makes them freak out. Maybe they'll come to their senses. They're isn't any indication that they've found something else and they're just trying to wiggle out of the contract is there? In that case, I'd go the lawyer route. Honestly. Some people.

I do think you'd be able to make more money if you had more time for the sale. And the rental market does sound promising. We had a decent tenant once....maybe you'll have a better experience this time?

Is it your realtors who have brought in the big guns? Might be worth seeing if you can hold her to it as long as it doesn't get too expensive time or money wise. Any chance that she just knows an attorney and is seeing what you will do? I only ask having done that before myself.

Did you use a management service to rent last time? I've heard that can help (if they are good at doing that sort of thing).

Bleh. I hope you do get a bed to sleep on tonight. AND the rest of what is yours. Dallas sounds good! How is Nikolai doing without his stuff?
