  • Weird Map Question

Does anyone know how to get a map showing a certain radius area from a location? Preferably free and on-line?

I'm looking for something that would show, say, a 3 mile radius from my house. Any suggestions?

I would say Google Earth would be your best bet. You can download it free!

Google maps have a scale on in the lower left corner. It isn't an isolated pic of your 3 mi radius, but you can draw a circle with the scale and have the three view options: regular map view, satellite view and hybrid that overlays the roads and landmarks on the satellite image. That's the only thing I know of.

        Thanks!

I wasn't able to get a circle around a specific location but I could measure "as the crow flies" distance with the Google Earth.

I tried to draw a circle with the scale and couldn't get that to work.

I think I got what I needed though.

ESRI (makers of Arcview - the prime GIS software) has some free software - I think it's called ArcExplorer. It can do that.
