Christmas in August??

I saw Christmas stuff out in the stores today. It seems like retailers put holiday merchandise out on the shelves earlier and earlier every year...but this year is the earliest I've ever seen. Yeah, it's the last day of August, but isn't it still officially summer?!? ugh, commercialism is so out of hand.

Is it just my neck of the woods, or is anyone else seeing holiday stuff in stores, too?

I recall Costco putting out stuff very early last year - and the craft stores (Michael's, Joann's, etc.) . Other than that, I haven't seen stuff here yet.

It is crazy, isn't it? I can't even stand looking at the long sleeves and velvet pants while I'm wearing shorts.

Did you just do a search for that candy, or did you know it existed. Sadly, I knew it existed. Why, because I am a foodaholic, and I watch the Food Network all too often. You have an item in your avatar that I covet. Actually, I don't want red, but I do want the 6 quart professional. Whimper....

Christmas prep is getting rediculous. Does this really make anyone shop earlier? I know I still do all of mine at the last minute in spite of my vows every year to start earlier.

I do most of my Christmas shopping online and I like to start planning fairly early. That way I know what my budget will look like. I don't always buy all the presents early, but I try to be done by the end of November. Yes, I know. I'm a freak of nature. Now if only I could be so organized with my living space, that would be awesome.

I don't like the "pro" models because I don't care for the bowl-lift, although my tilt-head artisan (in empire red, of course) is rapidly dying (from wear to the tilt hinge) so maybe I will "go pro" next time...

You're making me re-think my covet. I've always wanted the pro for the motor and the bowl size, but, now I am thinking it won't be as user-friendly. Sadly, all I have is a Sunbeam Mixmaster.

Another issue with the "pro" -- potential noise. Some sound like an airplane (in need of a tune) taking off and others don't. Seems to be a crapshoot. I don't think the bowl lift is too bad once you get used to it unless you are frequently switching between a pro and artisan. I've been happy with the artisan and the bowl size has not been an issue -- I wasn't sure if it would be.

re: holidays. WTH? I was at Target a few nights ago getting a school supply that I forgot. You know, school supply, as in the START of the school year. What do I see them pulling out? Halloween decorations. Then at the checkout there are all these magazines and craft books with Halloween decoration ideas, parties, halloween food.....C'mon!

also the artisan comes in so many colors!

right now, my tilt hinge is so badly worn that the tip of the paddle attachment rests on the bottom of the bowl, which leaves horrible marks on the bowls. I got mine factory refurbished, but I should probably plan on asking for a new one for christmas (see how I brought the topic of discussion back to christmas?)

It CAN'T be Christmas - I just go through back to school, the two season my job REVOLVES around. Of course my holiday plan is due to my boss Sept. 15th so everything will be planned in the next two weeks - PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!

Wait a minute....I see an opportunity. Cheri, if there is some way we can stall you for a week or two (without you losing your job of course) does that mean that maybe, just maybe, we can stem the tide of holiday creep?


Too true about the colors of the artisan. The one thing that makes me wish they wore out faster is the opportunity to change colors. I went with basic black but oh the other colors.*swoon* Sounds like you have the inner workings of your machine figured out, but have you tried the thingie that adjusts the bowl height? Maybe that would help. The Kitchen Aid help line is great -- you even get to talk to a real person.

I've taken it apart and put it back together, but to no avail. I haven't tried calling the help line, maybe I'll do that.

Then again, this is my chance to go for an orange one.

I've always wanted to pro too. The bowl size is just to die for! But I thought these puppies had a lifetime guarantee? Mine is white, not my favorite color, but at least I've finally got a cabinet I can store it in. One day I hope to have one of those shelves that pulls out / up and then locks so you can use it w/o lifting it. Ahhhhhh. A girl can dream.

Yeah - at Target today I was shocked to see the Halloween stuff already creeping out. I just try to ignore it.

Yeah, does anyone remember what Christmas is really about? I'm sure it wasn't shopping. I'm not religious or anything but I think that selling Christmas things in August is just wrong!!

Having said that, DH and I will be celebrating our first Christmas together this year (even though we met two years ago) and he will be working. So, it'll be turkey in the call room for us, if he has time to eat it!
