  • NYC - Plane crashed into residential building

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say an aircraft has crashed into a building on Manhattan's Upper East Side at 72nd Street and York Avenue. It is near Rockefeller Center.

There was no word on casualties.

Video from the scene shows at least three apartments in the high rise fully engulfed in flames.

It's unclear if it was a small plane or a helicopter.

WTF!? Are all of you New Yorkers okay???

So far there seem to be no casualties reported but it's not clear what happened to the pilot and if anyone else was inside. Nobody is leaking anything just yet. It is rather freaky.

Weirdly enough my mom still thinks that us leaving NY is a horrible idea.

ETA: 2 deaths have just been reported, but still no word as to who it is or what happened.

I just realized that my girlfriend's office is 4 blocks away. She works at 78th & Lex. This is the same friend who was working on Wall St. on 9/11 and ran into her building as the 2nd plane hit.

I so hope this was just a horrible accident and not terrorism.

Feeling better. She just called me back and corrected me ... she's at 38th & Lex.

Still hope it was just an awful accident.

The BBC is reporting that the FBI denies any reason to believe that this is terrorist related.

Up to four dead reported at this time. My apt is about 6 blocks away. Scary. There is pretty up to date info on http://www.gothamist.com.

Considering that all the airports are open and operating as usual, I'm assuming they've ruled out terrorism and it's just a horrible accident.

They're saying on CNN that it was a plane owned by a Yankee pitcher and that his passport was found on the ground.

The plane belonged to Corey Lidle, a former Phillies pitcher. He and one other person were on board. It was just a freak accident.
