  • Our kitchen floor

We noticed about 3 months ago that our kitchen floor was starting to buckle near the stove and refrigerator....We have an ice-maker/water dispenser and we really got on the kids about not getting ice/water from the fridge door. The problem has gotten much worse. The floor is seriously buckled now from our stove to our fridge and beyond.

Yesterday, our builder came over to look at our downstairs floor (that is also peeling up ).

I had them take a peek at the floor in the kitchen assuming that they would tell me that it was our fault.

It turns out...the fridge has a slow LEAK and the floor behind the fridge is black.

The damage to our floor is about $1500 with labor etc....and we don't know who will cover it.....Hopefully the builder will suck it up since we've not been in the house a year yet...They think the fridge warranty should cover it, but ... it has expired....

This sucks. I hope that the builder bears the expense too!

It would probably be covered, but Tara is right...our rates would skyrocked and they may play the mold card even though there doesn't seem to be a mold problem.

It looks like a small leak that maybe dripped only when we actually used the water machine.

The reason that we thought our builder might cover it is that we got a 1 year warranty with them when we bought the house.......... You're right though...It isn't their fault that the fridge is ... kaput.

        What a bummer.
