My answer to this is no - I've tried for many years and can't get there.

    Hang in there!

I'm the same way. You think we'd learn.

Always expect the worst...trust me it will make the rare ocassions of the "pleasant unexpected" seem like miracles of happiness... hmmm am I saying this tongue-n-cheek ...or do I really mean it...both

I def agree, just expect the worst. we're not even married yet and I am already in the habit of doing that. But is that bad?

I mean I would like to expect the best in every situation from my fiance but in reality the best rarely happens (especially post call days). Sometimes its really hard to expect the worst from the person you love, but then when the unexpected happens then it seems amazing! I mean by expecting the worst you never have to deal with the feeling of dissapointment...its a viscious never ending cycle...

ARGH!!! I can't help it but try to be optimistic. I get burned every so often, but rarely... Dh made it to a dinner last week only 30 minutes late - he ended up being earlier than a lot of the guests! He looked exhausted because he raced over from work, dropped his briefcase off at home and ran to the restaurant. There was no way I could be mad...
