DH did his residency in the South Bay just outside of Los Angeles. Our rent for a 2 bed/2 bath was about $1900/mo. not including utilities...and that was 5 years ago. Last I checked, the same apt was renting for just under $2400.

His pay was also pretty low compared to other programs. As an intern, he made $33k. I think his program is now paying interns about $37.5....a nice increase, but still low.

      Traffic sucked.

It was nice being a 5 minute walk from the ocean.

DC- Expensive but tons and tons of stuff to do (like, even free stuff). I sold my 515 sq. foot condo for 125k and we're renting our 1800 sq. ft house for 2k/month. (3br/1ba)

Besides, I can't tell you how cool it is to live there if you're a politics fan.

Oh, and we did residency in San Antonio- great weather most of the time, cheap but zero infrastructure- unless you live downtown, you will be stuck in your car and the traffic problem here is only going to get worse.

Thanks for the tip about the West Loop. Do you mean the Greektown area? I've noticed that they're doing tons of building there. As much as I like living in the city, I need parks and water. I'm from Seattle!! The closest in to town that I see us getting is Old Town, but I'm keeping our options open!
