  • Dogs eating cat food

I’m too lazy to go to the pet forum.

We’re having a problem with Misty. She has stopped eating her dog food and will only eat cat food. Thomas insists on having the cat food out at all times and Misty started sneaking into the cat room and eating it. I tried putting the cat food on a table, but I walked in on her standing on the table eating the food. Obviously I need a taller table or something. I’m playing with ideas.

Does anyone know if dried cat food is dangerous for dogs?

Cat food is not balanced for dogs. It's not dangerous per se, but the higher levels of protein and calories can cause issues over time. (Funny enough, my husband fed the dog for the first time ever last night while I was watching a Zoom school board meeting. He ended up giving the dog cat kibble, LOL.)

      (spotty) ... that’s funny!!

Sequester the cat in a closed room for a few days. Keep the dogs kibble out & when Misty eventually gets hungry enough, she’ll eat HER dog food.

Not exactly sure, but I think cat food has too much protein for dogs (leading to kidney trouble).

Thanks. I knew I could count on you. Since Thomas insists the cats have free access and I can’t continuously supervise the cats, I think I’ll get taller tables for the cat food. It sure seems tastier than dog kibble.
