I wouldn't say that I like the nomad life, but in the past 10 years, I haven't lived in any one apartment/house for more than 2 years. Some of the move were local moves in the same city - just moving from one apt. to another - and some of them were to different cities.

We finally have a house that we love so I'm looking forward to living in the same house for the duration of residency and hopefully a few years post residency.

I think it is scary to think about moving somewhere for a long time, especially if it is to a new area! I know for me, I worried about picking the wrong neighborhood, or maybe not the wrong neighborhood, but picking a good one and then finding one that I liked better! Or a house that I liked better. Its a big decision!

Have you considered renting for a few months in your new city so that you can get a feel for the city and the parts that you like/ don't like?

I grew up in the same house- my parents bought it in 1973 and lived there until July '05. Once I left home though I became a nomad- some of it was moving for jobs, others were moving to different homes in the same town. We're also buying a great house and we're hoping that my husband will be able to do the Army payback all in San Antonio. Our next move (if he's still Army) will be overseas so I don't see us resisting that too much.

Who knows. I know that I can't imagine living anywhere for more than two years at a time! I haven't since I left home to go to college.
