  • Signs and symptoms of internet addiction

    I saw this article today

    http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/hughes/6574

Here are the signs/symptoms of internet addiction:

    1. Lying about how much time is spent online.
    2. General decrease of physical activity and social life.
    3. Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time online.
    4. Spending too much money on computer equipment or Internet activities.
    5. Feeling a constant desire to be online when they're away from the computer.
    6. Going online to escape real world problems.
    7. Disregarding the emotional or physical consequences of being in front of a computer all day.
    8. Denial of the problem.

Um, is it bad that I show *half* of the signs? :!

Well, considering I should be working, but instead am sitting on my ass in front of a flat screen monitor (but only for a few minutes really!) escaping my problems and the gym to be here, regardless of the consequences....

No, I don't have a problem at all!

oh God...I'm an addict for sure. "Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time online." Yep, that's me for sure.

                  Step One: Denial (check)
Step Two: Admitting you have a problem (check)
Step Three: Overcoming your problem (still working on that one)

I am def stuck in step two...but yah like others have said is it really a "problem"?

one of the symptoms wouldn't be:

drinking alone in front of the computer while your husband is out of town

                    would it?

                    at least I'm not shopping!

Re: Signs and symptoms of internet addiction

                          1. Lying about how much time is spent online.

                          Check

                          2. General decrease of physical activity and social life.

Don't know. Maybe. I've been doing this for about 9 years now. Is this why I am fat and my house is a disaster?!

                          3. Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time online.

                          Check

                          4. Spending too much money on computer equipment or Internet activities.

Naw... That's dh's problem. I'm a window shopper! The computer can't die, however, THAT would be an issue. I don't think I would gracefully say goodbye like Planet. Actually, I KNOW I wouldn't!

                          5. Feeling a constant desire to be online when they're away from the computer.

And then some. It is so embarassing. Check. I check it at other people's houses!

                          6. Going online to escape real world problems.

                          Check!

                          7. Disregarding the emotional or physical consequences of being in front of a computer all day.

                          Check!

                          8. Denial of the problem.

                          What problem?

                            Yeah, me too.

But I could quit at any time.
