i would suggest the Como Park Zoo and the gardens--also if you have a day you might consider seeing the boundary waters--and oh ya Valley Fair--pricey but fun if anyone in your party is interested in those rides that make you puke

Any suggestions on some things that the kids and I can do with our 21 year-old visitor from Northern Ireland over the next two weeks? We are all going to do the Mall of America sometime this week, and I have found "Paul Bunyan Land"...other than that, I am totally at a loss....

As much as I groan about the winters here, the summers truly are fantastic here in MN. Como Zoo is wonderful and ***free****!!!!! A tour of the Twin Cities and the cosmopolitan Minneapolis downtown would be a neat thing to see. I still haven't seen the Mary Tyler Moore statue, mind you.

Another thought is the U. of M. I always enjoy seeing Univerities and colleges everywhere that I go. And there is Summit Avenue in St. Paul which boasts the longest street of Victorian style manors in the U.S. The Minnesota historical society offers tours on Saturday for about $5. We enjoyed it as an intro to the local history.

However, a trip to Minnesota wouldn't be complete without a tour-du-Lakes. You probably have a few within blocks of your home. I don't really know the names of most of the ones that we've been to, but Lake Calhoun is Mineapolis' answer to Central Park.

There is always the casinos too. I've never been a gambler, but the casinos are also supposed to be fun. Let me know if you find anything else, as we are always looking for things to do. Have fun!

Thanks for the tips...I would really like for her to have a good time, but we don't seem to be getting out and about as much as I would like....the kids aren't into shopping....but a free trip to the zoo...that sounds pretty good!

We went to the Como Zoo yesterday, and it was GREAT! There are even little rides in front of it and the kids were delighted to go on the little roller-coaster. They thought they were so grown-up! Really, I thought this was a neat little zoo...someplace that you can really go several times...but it was very, very difficult to find!!! There are NO signs, and the maps I printed out from the web were not very helpful. Another lesson I learned...don't leave the zoo at 4pm on Friday and think you aren't going to sit on the highway for 2 hours in standstill traffic Yipes!

It was a great suggestion Kelly..thanks. We also discovered that there is an Indian Park and a Paul Bunyan park that isn't too expensive. The Wisonsin Dells are nearby (relatively) and they seem to have fun things to do there as well.
