Here's how I feel right about now

Just about the time I start to get accustomed to each change in location for 3rd and 4th year rotations something comes and upsets the apple cart all over again!

As it turns out after we found a cool house to rent in Grosse Ile, Michigan, the Dean kept working on securing the hospitals in Saginaw, Michigan for the next class. He was able to not only accomplish that goal, but was able to accomplish the goal of being able to send students there this year (RECAP: we move in 3 weeks!). Who, of course, does he approach about this issue but my darling husband, who of course wants to go there. After much research and talking it over we decided that it was, in fact, the better choice of hospitals for him to do his rotations in. So, we are now headed to Saginaw, Michigan instead of Paterson, NJ or Cleveland, OH or Trenton, MI.

My head is still reeling just a little with all of these changes. I am someone that adjusts much better to change when I have a little time to absorb it. I haven't had mcuh time to absorb it all, but I am feeling better than I was on Wednesday when this decision was made. I don't mean to sound like I am unhappy with the decision-- I'm fine with it--- just too many changes at once. Saginaw seems to be a nice place with a lot of snow (though I'm pretty sure that Minnesota beats Michigan!) and a beautiful lake, or bay or whatever they call that part of Lake Huron. I have a good friend that lives 1/2 hour away in Flint, in addition to my good friend that is going to be in Trenton.

Is the packing done? Nope- I'm playing on the computer instead!

Oh my Gosh, Wendy....I almost fell over when I read your letter...it's kind of exciting though...imagine the tale you will be able to tell when Dave is done with training: "it all started when we thought we were moving to....." What will happen with the house that you rented now? Will you be able to get out of the lease without any problems...did you have to put any $$$$ down? How about house-hunting in Michigan?

Wow...you are 3 weeks from the move, eh? Some quick pack tips from someone who has packed and moved a few times over the last few years....Buy boxes...don't use the grocery store kind if you can avoid it..or only use a few. We bought moving boxes from U-Haul and from Wal-Mart...they are just sturdier. Set them up and tape them and place a few in each room. You might want to get packing paper for glassware instead of using newspaper..the newspaper leaves its ink...yuck Once I had the boxes etc set up, I was able to pack things, go away and do something else and come back to it, and it seemed less "painful". It actually can go pretty fast....

I wish there was something I could do......you are definately in my thoughts!

I am ready to get out of Kirksville, though it isn't the worst place this time of year.

I'm adjusting to the idea of Saginaw a little better now. I am excited about the place we are renting---- 1900 square feet total, 3 BR 1.5 bath! I think we'll have to put one piece of furniture in each room! That's over twice the space we have now.

Packing is going better. Since I worked at the hospital here, I know a lot of the Central Supply people. It makes it pretty easy for me to go get boxes from them instead of having to buy them all. Because they're all boxes of supplies that are shipped to the hospital, they are good for moving.

I just keep telling myself- this too shall pass.... I will make it through.... this is an adventure......

Wendy I suppose the ol' college packing system--everything in GLAD trash bags is out of the question.

                Kris-

I know what I want my nickname to be under my username-- how about "Drowning in boxes!" or "sick of boxes" or "I'm going to scream soon if these boxes don't go away!"

Packing is going fine- I'm probably 75% through. I've learned a few things about efficiency among our many moves, so it's going pretty smoothly. We've actually splurged and are having movers do the loading, driving and unloading. The furniture we have now is pretty decent furniture & needs to last a while, so we decided it was worth it to let people who know how to pack for 700 miles of road vibration take care of it.

I'm pretty excited about our new place. It has 1900 sq feet when you include the finshed basement. We've never had that much room before! We'll have to put one piece of furniture in each room!

T minus 6 days and counting........

Believe it or not, I am just reading the posts in this forum. It's taking me forever, but I will eventually get caught up on them all, I swear!

Anyway, Wendy: I wanted to say good luck with your move! And you're right, it IS an adventure, just keep telling yourself that. I tell myself that every time I go through a stressful life change, and it does help.

You know, I really think that moving is what you have to do forever when you get sent to hell. Over and over again, you move into a third-floor apartment with no elevator, and then just when you're all unpacked and settled, you have to move again. Oh, and you're wearing ski boots the whole time.

                    Chris-

You forgot to mention that it would be the hottest day of the year each time you move!

This is an adventure....this is an adventure...this is an adventure......
