  • What are you thankful for this year?

As Thanksgiving approaches, what are you thankful for?

    I'm thankful for:

    - the fact that I, my DH, and DS are all healthy and (mostly ) happy
    - a warm bed to sleep in at night and a roof over my head
    - not having to worry about where our next meal will come from or how to pay the electric bill
    - our fun-loving dog, who makes me smile no matter what
    - the fact that I'm able to be a SAHM and love it (most) days
    - my family and friends

    -Wife of urology attending.
-SAHM to three great kiddos (2 boys, 1 girl!)

    I'm thankful:

    WE ARE DONE WITH TRAINING.

I have two fantastic, healthy children I ADORE!!!!

DH and I can spend some couples time together now when neither of us are sleep deprived. I am remembering why I married him.

I get to move into my dream house in less than two months.

I'm just in a good place right now...

This is going to be a touch sanguine, so my apologies....

      I'm grateful to have...
-The best family on the face of the planet. I can't believe my good fortune sometimes.
-I have the unbelievably best possible job for our crazy circumstances
-I'm profoundly grateful for the freedom, choices, and prosperity that comes from living in this country
-I'm grateful to have enough resources to support my kids and family
      -My family and great friends
-THE END OF SURGERY RESIDENCY APPROACHES!

-and Somehow I still have hope for all of humanity

Things not to be taken for granted--

        --a loving marriage
--a family who gets on well together and that I am living near them again, and specifically that I still have both parents with me
--that this transition into residency has gone the way it has: good location, good specialty, dodged most major bullets and caught some lucky breaks
--all the things I miss about NYC, because I got to experience them in the first place
--that all my problems are "good problems to have": either solveable or issues of personal fulfillment rather than basic safety
Married to a hematopathologist seven years out of training.
        Raising three girls, 11, 9, and 2.

“That was the thing about the world: it wasn't that things were harder than you thought they were going to be, it was that they were hard in ways that you didn't expect.”

          Things I'm thankful for:
          - My DH and DD
          - That residency has brought us closer to family. And we enjoy spending time with them.
          - That even though we feel so incredibly poor, we can provide for our family financially.
          - DH's program. It is still residency and it still sucks at times, but the program is incredibly family friendly and was extremely understanding last week. DH was able to take time off last week when I really needed him.
Cranky Wife to a Peds EM in private practice. Mom to 5 girls - 1 in Heaven and 4 running around in princess shoes.

I was grumpy when this thread was started last week, but I have lots to be thankful for and need to remember that.

            - My boys ---- even though they push me to the end sometimes, they always pull me back with their love and humor. They're neat little guys.
            - DH ---- I may complain, but he is a very good man who works hard for his family
            - Friends ---- I come from a small family, my mom is gone, I have no siblings, and my dad & I aren't close. My friends ARE my family -- and I have great ones.

              Thankful for...

              - Being here, a family friendly residency in the "worst" specialty
              - My DH who I love very much and takes good care of me
              - My family who I also love very much and has been very supportive of all of our moves and changes through this crazy process
              - Like Julie said, that the problems I have a minor compared to some and can always be fixed

              Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

                I am thankful for...

-Still being head over heals in love with the man I married,
-Having two little dudes who occassionally tell me, "Mommy you're my best friend."
-Finding those little plastic suction cup thingies so now the Christmas lights in my window are all perfectly aligned.

                Ah-h-h. Perfect peace.

I hate to jinx anything, but I am so thankful that we seem to be getting my in-laws affairs wrapped up. It's bringing some peace into our lives.

I love everyone I share my house with! Really, most of the time, it is an oasis from the outside world.

My backyard. Even on a dreary day, it is a gorgeous green and there is usually something new to notice.
