  • sooo not happy...

I know I'm new here, but I wanted to vent, hopefully no one will mind. We just found out that my husband failed his internal medicine boards. We are so upset over this. I know this is going to sound really stupid, but he is not the type to fail tests. I don't understand what happened! He has never failed a test in medical school, never failed any boards, did quite well on the MCATS. I just don't get it and I don't know what happened. We are "grieving" of sorts right now. He applied to a fellowship for next year and we are afraid that they will not take him now. He was given the spot before they even looked at his resume or application because they are in dire need of that specialty. There were two spots for fellowship and two people who applied (he was one of them). That is his main concern, not getting the fellowship. Any words of hope or encouragement? How do I support him and get him through this? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you!

There are a lot of people here who have suffered through that experience. We're waiting for the results of the boards right now. I can't even think about giving up another year of my life so he can study.
    I'm so sorry.

It's hard - it's devastating. It really is. I do sympathize.

My first thought is the fellowship will still take him b/c many people don't even take their boards immediately anyway. Unless they're asking for board scores or confirmation that he's passed, I wouldn't offer the info. He can just reschedule and take them at the next opportunity.

We have been there too. Just sign up to retake them and don't offer the info. If asked just say you are taking them in May (or whenever they are).
