  • Is life returning to normal.....

for everyone? Slowly, I find that we are returning to our routine...I seem to be weaning myself from Fox News and CNN...and I'm trying to establish "normalcy" again in the house.....

We are still pretty glued to the TV, but are trying to get other things accomplished. It still just seems like a bad dream.

It is pretty tough here. I've been working in the ER, we are seeing alot of the emotional stuff. So many people here have lost a family member. I can't tell you how many people live in the Princeton area and commute to New York. I am feeling so overwhelmed, and yet so thankful my family is OK. Many casualties lived within a 30 mile radius of the hospital.

I declared Sunday to be a 'media free' day- as much as possible. I went to the gym on Saturday and had to leave and go walk outside- I couldn't find a place to escape and actually try to destress. I couldn't take another talking head blathering on about facts that at that point were absolutely not important. The important developments had been reported- and nothing else had happened yet- I just couldn't take it.

I hosted my yoga group Sunday evening which was also a nice way to attempt to deal with the stress. We did some meditations and sent good healing energy to each other and more importantly- to the people in New York and DC. Don't know if it worked or not but it couldn't hurt!

Another interesting aspect is that my job, which I only minimally like (Love the clients, hate the corporate office) is even more of a drag. I cannot get myself worked up about their petty bs- not worth the energy.

So, I lit a candle outside tonight, as did a few of my neighbors, will hopefully find a flag over the weekend and get on with life as best I can. Can't ask for more than that!

I can only imagine, Lu, what you are going through...and if there is any way that we can give you some extra support right now, please let us know....we are all so much farther from this tragedy and it is easier for us to move forward a bit...

I have also been severely limiting my news intake. It is just too depressing...and I am tired of hearing the same things debated over and over again.

I have returned to my diet and exercise and am trying to move forward again....although the incident still is never far from my mind...also, I feel a sense of control in that we are working to try and raise some money...

I hope that everyone is ok. I thought that I was adjusting but then I heard about the thwarted plan for utilizing crop dusters to spray biological weapons over our lands. Apparently, this individual was arrested here in Minnesota, near Kris I believe. After hearing this news on the TV, I had a terrible nightmere about some building being attacked. (Sean was postcall and didn't even flinch. ) This made me think about the survivors of the WTC. I can't imagine what they must be going through. I guess that it will take along time for this country to heal.

              Kelly,

I didn't realize that the arrest had happened near me, actually...and now that I read this...I am completely and totally terrified! I wasn't going to mention this on the boards, but...I will...I went out this weekend and started buying gallons of water...I know, I know...even my husband was having a good chuckle at my expense (although he didn't argue about buying them!). Now that I have read this, I feel like moving....but I don't know where...because I don't know where we would be safe. .....Sorry to freak everyone out...

                Robin,

Your post made me realize how ill prepared I would be for anything, let alone a terrorist attack. I don't think that we own a flashlight, save Sean's pen light. I'm constantly driving around with the "Need fuel" light lit up and absolutely no money on my person. Perhaps I should think about being more prepared!

On the news last night they were interviewing a salesman at an emergency preparedness store and I was surprised to hear that his store alone has sold 600 to 700 gas masks to protect people from biological warfare. That made me nervous because we aren't as prepared as we should be. In church we have been counseled to keep a year supply of food on hand in case of emergency and we had a decent supply but the lack of money in medical school has caused us to use most of it and now I feel very unprepared for an emergency. We do fill up 2-liter pop bottles with water and we probably have stocked up with 100 of them. Who would have thought to buy gas masks!!!! It is really scary if you dwell on it too much. I had my first nightmare about being attacked a couple of days ago and it scared me pretty good.

I don't think that it is a time to overeact but I do think that it is a time to think about how prepared we are in case of an emergency. I also think it is a great idea to stock up on water, food supplies, flashlights and batteries etc. Who knows what the future will hold but if we are prepared, then it won't be as difficult. Hopefully we won't see another terrorist attack but even if we don't, we may still have a recession and it would be nice to have supplies to help out if necessary.

All we can do is be prepared and then pray for the best.

                  Robin
