  • Horrifyingly Sick!!!!!

DS earlier today said "Mommy you don't microwave people right?" I said "of course not , that could kill a person!" I just saw this story! Oh God I hope this isn't true!

Ohio woman charged with microwaving baby
By JAMES HANNAH, Associated Press Writer2 hours, 42 minutes ago
A woman suspected of killing her month-old daughter by putting her in a microwave oven was indicted on a charge of aggravated murder Thursday, and the prosecutor said he would seek the death penalty.
The indictment against China Arnold, 26, does not provide details on the death of Paris Talley.
Investigators have said evidence that includes high-heat internal injuries and the absence of external burn marks on the baby were consistent with a microwave oven. The baby died on Aug. 30, 2005. Her mother was arrested last week.
"The Montgomery County coroner came to the conclusion that the injuries sustained by this baby could have only been caused by being placed into a microwave oven and having that oven turned on and (cooking) the baby to death," Montgomery Country Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said at a news conference.
Heck declined to discuss a possible motive or release any other details about the case. He said Arnold would be subject to the death penalty if convicted because the victim was a child.
Defense attorney Jon Paul said Arnold had nothing to do with her child's death. He said Arnold and the child's father had left Paris with a baby sitter the night before she found the baby unconscious.
"China has the moral courage and the confidence in her God that the truth will come out in this case," Rion said. "We will seek every single way possible to communicate to our government and to the jury in this case that China is innocent of all the charges."
Arnold is being held on $1 million bond. Heck said he will ask the court to order her held without bail at a hearing Tuesday.

I just threw up a little while reading that. Clearly - anyone who would have done that is mentally ill, but you can't help but wish something horrible on them as well.

      Yup, that is terribly sick.

It sounds as if the death penalty would be a very wrong option here though, as it is not clear who was responsible. What point does anyone come to in their life where they are capable of such a thing? I also wish that the lawyer would leave any talk about "God" out of it though. It's not the time or the place.

It is just a dreadful story, however it happened.

i read about this last week, it physically made me sick.

when dh came home from work, i told him a mother was being charged with murder...that her baby was burned...not externally, but internally. he guessed right away.

        that poor, sweet, inocent baby.

If they can prove it, toast the murderer. I'm all for the death penalty. This is appalling and I can't believe people like this exist. It's just horrible.

Ugh, that's sick. The thing is that she may be able to get away if she claims mental illness.

Wise words, Alison. I thought the same myself.

It must be the most unbearable of hells that a mother reaches when she even considers this kind of action, let alone undertakes it.

On the other hand, when this kind of thing is due to someone's illegal drug use, I have no sympathy at all. Drug use is free to choose, post natal psychosis is not.
