  • Devil docs

Hi- Did anyone see this documentary on CNN yesterday? It described the forward surgical teams from the Navy and how they treated soldiers and Iraqis in the recent fighting. I thought it was pretty interesting. It sure helped us to see what "military medicine" can mean, especially in a case of a conflict. This documentary only followed one surgical team, including 3 docs and many support staff. It was interesting to see how most of the patients treated were Iraqis, mostly civilians but some soldiers, even.

BTW, if anyone has seen it, did you catch or do you know why they are called "Devil Docs"? Maybe a Navy person would know???

Just a guess, but the marines' nickname is "devil dogs". Hence, I'm assuming that the term Devil docs signifies that these physicians care for the Marines.

makes sense to me-- they were Navy docs and they were following the marines near the front. Strange that they didn't really go into that in the documentary at all-- they made it sound like all the docs who treat soldiers are called devil docs...
