  • D.C. -- Beating a Dead Horse. :)

OK. OK. I know. We don't even know if we will end up here, but I have to know more about D.C.

We are heading to Walter Reed for an interview on August 21. I need help on where to stay, what areas to stay away from, and any other D.C. tracel tips. Neither my hubby or me have been to D.C., sp we are travelling blindly.

Also, as for living there. We are thinking about living straight north of the city in Maryland, but we are still interested in anything close and SAFE near WRMC. I guess what I really want are the DON'T DARE LIVE THERE! areas.

    Thanks again!

    Shel-

Places to stay- well- there's only about a million so I would check online resources and see what kind of a deal you can come up with- there should be plenty because August in DC pretty much sucks ass. It's hot, it's humid and everyone who can leaves town. (There's a reason why both Congress and the Supreme Court take summer recess, trust me)

On that note- straight above WRAMC is a truly SWEET neighborhood, if you can afford a half million plus home. (My is to live there someday after my husband acheives significantly more rank!)

On the Maryland side is Silver Spring and Takoma Park, Wheaton, Kensington, Rockville and Bethesda. Bethesda is really expensive but a great neighborhood- there are some hotels there, too. SS is truly experiencing a turn around but it's still reasonably affordable. Takoma Park- it depends entirely on where in TP you're looking. Rockville=traffic nightmare. Wheaton and Kensington- there are some nice neighborhoods and there are some not so nice ones.

There are also some great DC neighborhoods as well- if you're imagining a town like New York City, you will be shocked. First, there are no buildings taller than the Washington Monument. Second- there are some great historic neighborhoods and it's a very pedestrian friendly city. Even if you end up living in MD, you'll find DC to be pretty easy to get around in, so long as you 1) use Metro or 2) learn the bizarre way streets are laid out- there's system but it's not readily apparent. Once you do learn it though, you'll never be lost in DC.

Feel free to PM me and I can give you my phone number- I'd be happy to show you guys around my home town and my husband can be the ambassador for WRAMC!
