Matt, we are getting ready to leave for the weekend, so I will post more later, but some quick thoughts.....

Scott AFB was one of our top picks. Small town atmosphere, but right across the Mississippi from St. Louis = best of both worlds. The OBs deliver at a civilian hospital, so peds probably has some interaction there as well, at least with newborns, which can be a very nice thing.

Mountain Home AFB was our first assignment before we traded to get this place. Really in the middle of no where, pretty small base. Our understanding was that the only reason they even have a hospital there is that in the winter, it is sometimes too treacherous weather-wise to get out to Boise (about an hour away). The town of Mountain Home is EXTREMELY small. Great if you love hunting and fishing. We passed.

Wright-Patterson......very nice area. Not a huge city but a nice one. Cost of living is certainly higher than where I am, but so is just about everywhere else.

We have heard lots of good things about Offutt, but don't know many specifics.

The peds we know here do not seem to be hating life too much. All of the inpatient care here is at the civilian hospital, which is nice. Clinic is on base and there are currently three pediatricians here. If your wife wants to pursue an assignment here further, I can get you the name/number of the pediatrician that we are friends with here.

    Hope this helps.
