Ok, after a few days to digest some things, I thought of another question dealing with housing...

Do you know of any stipulations on the distance away from the hospital or clinic that a Dr can live?
We have been "looking" online at housing and areas and it seems that a larger selection of affordable houses, are going to be about 45 min away from the base. We were just wondering if anyone knew of any reason that could be a problem.

Tomorrow DW has the day off, so we hope to get a phone # of someone at the base, if possible and attempt to connect. Thanks for helping!!

I don't recall hearing any "official" stipulations when we got here, but DH's specialty is kind of self-governing in that regard. We will not ever live more than 15-20 minutes from the hospital as long as he is doing OB. You will have to talk to someone there to see where people tend to live.....and if call is from home or in-house, which would make a difference.

Thanks Sally, I really don't think that we will end up that far away from DW work. Just wanted to ask and see. I wouldn't want to have to drive that far, but I know that people do it everyday. If we can keep from it, we will!

Thanks again! Oh yeah, I talked with Bank of America about the home loan thing, and they told us that the military bonus could be counted IF there was a two year paid history. So we will see if the FAP grant counts toward that or not....may or may not use it for qualification purposes if it does. Fun times!!

Matt- we got a home loan based on our military pay, plus BAH, plus BAS and that wasefore we actually received any military pay. We got it thru Wells Fargo and it was incredibly fast. I was surprised that they didn't hassel us about having a "history" of pay from the military, but I guess that in this area they know how it works and what not. My husband had to present some type of paystub, which was just his on line deal from mypay.com, but besides that it was easy. Now, trying to get the home loan from NFCU, that was difficult...

            Thanks Peggy!

I have been checking around, turns out the mortgage guy we have been dealing with did a couple of military/medical home loans in Texas last year. He said the exact same thing you did!

In the last couple days, we have been trying to contact someone at Eglin for just some general information- you know, call schedule stuff, how far away we could live, just general stuff. I found an email address on the hospital webpage for "sponsor monitor". So, we shot an email off to that address. He replied, turns out the guy is no longer working with the hospital but now works for the base Equal Opportunity Office. He forwarded to the LtCol of Medical Operations, who also replied and forwarded it to the LtCol of Pediatrics, who replied today! We don't have a sponsor yet, but we do have lots of people knowing that we would like some information!!
