  • Holy Crap!

My husband just called as he was driving from the civilian hospital (he has a patient in labor) back to base and told me that a truck with a BOMB tried to ram through the gate closest to the base hospital. The wrecked truck is visible and traffic to get on base is backed up for miles.

It totally gave me goose bumps when he told me that.

God bless our military personnel in Iraq and other places who live with the threat of bodily harm every day.

I will post more details when I hear them.

There is nothing being released about this......but DH saw the wrecked truck and heard the person (people?) had a bomb and were trying to head for "aerospace".....he doesn't know if that means the aerospace medicine area of the hospital, or someplace on the flight line. They came to the hospital gate (there are several gates) but that gate is used by other personnel than just the medical people. I hope it isn't true (just gossip) because if it can happen in a godforsaken place like this one, it could happen anywhere.....but the bright side is that whatever was happening, that truck didn't make it on base.

Wow, that is scary! I'm glad to hear that the truck didn't make it onto the base.

Wow....that is something to hear about on an average day....

I certainly hope that all is Ok, and that you give your family extra hugs today just because.

So- what happened? We had our own scare in DcCyesterday- some congressman's plane flew into protected airspace and everyone (rightfully so) flipped.

Walter Reed is an interesting place to try to get onto- and God help you if one of the politicos is there either for their own treatment or to press the flesh. We walk the dog on Ft. McNair, it's so pretty. But it's kind of disocncerting because I realized that every singlelight pole has a camera mounted on it. I'm sure they're not all working all the time, but I'm also sure that there wree at least some witneses to Petey's indiscretion on the general's lawn.

Oh- it turns out the Gen who has been with Mrs. Reagan is not the one on se lawn Petey did his thing. Although, stars are stars when your dog is taking a dump on a beautifully manicured lawn. Yikes!! (the Gen with Mrs. Reagan lives on Ft. Myer- the other prime location for Army brass)

I DON'T KNOW! It is really weird....the people that live in the base housing across the highway from the gate where this incident happened were prevented from leaving for an hour in the aftermath of this, but given no real reason why. There was nothing on the news or in the paper......even if it was "only" some idiot trying to ram the gate or even just a wreck, usually it would be reported because this is a small town and almost every day is a slow news day. It is kind of eerie, really.

If I ever hear anything, I will let you know.
