  • Hi All!

    Hey Everyone!

I'm not sure if anyone remembers me. More than a year ago -- that long already??? -- I was the neurotic wife of an MS4 who ran out of student loan monies and signed a 1-year HPSP scholarship w/ the Army. We thought we might end up (actually hoped we would end up) at WRAMC for a PM&R residency. Well, we received a civilian deferment.

DH is actually on call tonight, and I am just trying to pass the time. Internship isn't bad. We really love our new home and city. It's hard to look ahead and on to the two year payback in the Army. DH has no prior military experience and was too late to do OBC or even an ADT. He only wore military dress once, and that was for his interview at WRAMC. What an experience that was!!

Anyhow, I wanted to pop back in and see how everyone was doing.

    Take Care,

    Shelley

    Welcome back Shelley!

DH has no prior military experience
Ah yes, my DW, who is Air Force is the same!
He only wore military dress once
DW had never worn military uniform before until she reported! Luckily everyone was helpful, rather than reprimanding or scolding her. She is at COT now, she will finish that on the 10th....thank goodness!

Good luck, don't be a stranger!

Thanks for the welcome back. I remember some of yourposts from before and some of the hassles you and your wife ran into. are things any better now? I'm glad to hear that people have been patient with her lack of knowledge. Where do you guys go after she is done with COT?

We are already stationed at Eglin AFB. It is a really pretty place and nothing like I expected Florida-based on my limited travel here(Miami airport to the cruise docks!)

The many hassles are taken more in stride now. They are still there, we haven't been paid correctly for the monthly pay, they are refusing to pay for our travel from Kansas to Florida, they are refusing to pay for DW board exams. I am sure that DW, after COT will have it taken care of....in fact, as I was typing this she called to tell me that the finance office where she is training is trying to fix the housing issue. She was listed in the system to receive no $ for housing.

All in all, they owe us nearly $8K. I am sure we will get it sometime, hopefully before Christmas!

We were under the impression that the military will NOT pay for board exams - period. My husband has a total of three exams to take to pass his boards (written, physics, and oral) and the Air Force has been telling him quite adamantly that HE is responsible for the entire cost ($2100). Is this not true? Is their a way to have the military foot the bill?

DH was reimbursed for his oral boards IF he passed them. Luckily, he did. I don't remember about the multitude of other "board" tests.....too long ago, I guess. I will check with him.

The two that took them last year got the reimbursed, and she was told by someone else up the chain that there is $ for it.....somewhere.

Okay, I checked with DH and he thinks that all board fees are reimbursed....after the fact. He was active duty during residency, which made figuring it all out a heck of a lot easier......he thinks you might have to call someone at Randolph AFB to figure out how to get reimbursed if you are in a civilian program.

Sorry, I know that isn't much help!
