Can I just say that DH is finding the process of separating from the military to be just as painful as every other aspect of being in the military?

He had scheduled his third (since December) meeting with the gov't employee (not military) who handles separation. At a previous meeting, he emphatically stated that he does NOT want to be part of the medical reserves.....if he had not done that, he would have automatically become a reservist, which happened to a co-worker and was a pain in the ass to undo. Anyway, today his meeting was at 1:30, and had been scheduled several weeks ago. DH moved heaven and earth to make the meeting and still take care of his patients, and when he walked into the office, a guy told him that the lady he was to meet with had left for the day. No other explanation. Even though the appointment was clearly visible on the absent woman's calendar. The guy asked DH to come back tomorrow. DH (who is too polite to say "are you freakin' KIDDING me") said he just stood there. Finally the guy pretended to all of the sudden notice that absent woman had a 1:30 appt. with Major Richardson written clearly on her calendar and decided that HE would have the meeting with DH. Trouble was, he was an idiot who had no idea what he was doing. SO another lady came and did the meeting, teaching the other employee as she went. She told my husband that he was lacking essential paperwork that SHE HERSELF had taken from him not three weeks ago. He pointed that out to her (kindly, I'm sure ) and she rummaged around and found the paperwork. He got through the 30 minute meeting/employee training session without blowing a gasket, but it is all I have heard about since he got home. His next steps are to meet with a reserve recruiter so that he can be sure about what he is turning down (give me a break!) and he also has to attend a workshop on how to adjust to civilian life.

He can't get out soon enough.

This is why I hate the freakin' government!!! I swear it is so big and bloated they can't do anything right! Aren't there standards for hiring people, or do they just take anyone??

I have to commend your DH for not blowing a gasket, I sure would have. Really, in the private sector this kind of performance wouldn't be tolerated, at least not for long. Every part of your story pisses me off, and it doesn't even have anything to do with me. I really don't know how your hubby stayed calm. And like he really needs that workshop!

    Soon, Sally, soon.

After reading the stories on here, I can't fathom why anyone (medical, at least) would join the military. All the red tape would kill me. DH is constantly getting offers from the various branches of the military. As if.

Arghh, Sally- I know your pain my friend.

Chris- 90% of the problems with the military come from working with the civilian employees. They truly don't give a rat's ass about the military and make everything 8000 times more difficult. God, let me reorganize the civilian aspect of the miltiary....

I have a secret dream of becoming president someday and whippin' this country into shape. Somehow I don't think a female, atheist libertarian would be elected. And I *did* inhale.

Ahh, it's fun to fantasize about isn't it?

What I don't get though is how people can do such a crappy job. I've always taken great pride in doing the absolute best that I could at my jobs, even the menial ones. Sigh...
