  • When do you start...

I had question for anyone who has finished residency or fellowship and started to pay back time or continued on. When do you usually have to report to the next hospital? Is it July 1 or a later date? We will finish up on June 30th next year and I was just wondering about move time, etc. Is anyone going through this process right now? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

    Anne-

When your husband gets his orders next Spring, they will have a report date. Once you have a report date, you go to the transportation office to schedule a pack date and a move date (if you're letting them move you). You can and should schedule as soon as you have a date because the prime slots fill up quickly. (and yes, you can schedule a move even if all you have no idea where you're moving, as in an address)

Our report date was about 3-4 weeks after residency ended, if I remember correctly. I know we took a two week trip home, so it was at least that long, and I think we had some time to settle in after moving as well.

Oh yeah, you'll have plenty of time. We moved at the end of May when he graduated and he didn't report until July 1 (for residency). For fellowship, we moved in June for a report date in July and this time we're moving in June for an "official" report date of 17 July but an actual report date of 1 August.

One thing that you can count on is that the military is VERY good at moving people.

It's the most organized and easy thing we've ever done, every time. Now the actual moving experience has varied but the military end of things has been great.
