  • Hello, I;m new

My DH is about to enlist in the Air Force and is starting his first year of residency in July. Is the Air Force run a little differently from other branches. I mean what is the likelihood he will be going to Iraq ?

No one can tell you that, especially just starting residency. What his specialty is will determine that likelihood more than anything esle. Our ER and anesthesiology friends have all done, some have gone more than once. Matt's wife is on a humanitarian mission in the Pacific with the Navy.

Prepare for it and be happily surprised if it doesn't happen.

    Welcome!

    Jenn

PS- your husband can't be enlisted and doing a residency.

My husband is going to be in internal medicine. /they are giving him a salary during residency and then he owes them 4 years.

Then he's doing what's known as FAP, and he's an officer. (Unless he earned a salary after being commissioned during medical school in which case he's doing what is known as HPSP) For IM, he may go, he may not. There's also back fill, which is when a doc goes someplace for another doc for a short period of time. We have an Army endocrine friend who is going to Germany to backfill for a month.

I assume he's doing a civilian residency? Has he gone to OBC yet?
