Just wanted to remind all of you guys that uniforms and insignia are tax-deductible. As is travel that is not reimbursed and mileage for work. It definitely helped us with our deductions this year. Rick had to buy new combat boots, the new PT uniforms and new running shoes (twice) and (yes, the running shoes are deductible as PT is a requirement for their jobs). Also, because he has to go from the Air Force Hospital to the Army hospital at least once a week, the mileage between the two is deductible. (but not themileage from home or to home which counts as commuter mileage). Also, dont forget to take a look at your moving and job search expenses. If you did a DITY move and weren't covered 100%, you can deduct the rest. Any job search expenses that the spouses incurred as a result of having to move are also deductible. (a small consolation, but hey, everything counts!)
and for those of you who are not on military posts at the moment, if you're close to one, there are free tax preparation people set up (usually 7 days a week, 8-12 hours a day)
