There are a bunch of docs here deploying at the end of the week for three months to an *undisclosed location*. Has anyone else heard of deployments in your area? Part of the reason we came to the base we did is that it was touted as the type of base where the medical personnel hardly ever deploy -- an AETC base. I guess everything has changed since 9/11 -- this brings it home to me once again that the world has definitely changed.

    Sally-

A bunch of docs just got back here over the last few weeks- the first were last week and then another group from Lackland just got back last night. I don't reember if they were deployed directly to the action or to another hospital to replace people who went.

Heck- if a pediatrician can be stabbed to death in Korea, while walking on the street- anything can happen. Did your husband do a rotation in Haiti while at WHMC? The pediatricians usually go for two weeks while they are 3rd years. Rick deployed to Panama while enlisted so he's looking forward to it. But he's kinda strange...

Not Haiti, but he did get to go to Nicaragua with a humanitarian mission at the start of fourth year -- a very good experience for him. That trip wasn't a part of his program, though, just something that came up that he was able to be a part of.

Haiti is scary, my husband and I went together with a medical mission, and I was never so terrified. We aren't militay, but a friend talked us into going with his group. NEVER again.
