Has anyone's spouse done a fellowship in the military? What is their policy on being accepted? Board scores, class rank, etc.? Any other insight?

fellowship in AF?

Yes- My husband did an Army-Navy Child Neurology Fellowship. Quite a few of the AF fellowships are done in civilian hospitals. What happens is that your spouse would apply like all of the other applicants- the difference is whether the AF decides to fund it. Our friend was accepted two years in a row for a fellowship in neonatology but the AF didn't fund her so she decided against it because she didn't want to accrue debt. Last year the AF funded an AF slot so she's doing the fellowship here in SA but also does rotations at the various other hospitals in town. (especially the children's hospitals)
I know the neurology and child neurology is a civilian based program for the AF, nephrology for all of the services is civilian based.
I can get you more specifics if you want to PM me your info and I can get the skinny from my AF pals. The AF assignments officer is at Randolph AFB, FYI.

My DH applied for an army fellowship in neuro radiology and was not allowed to do one because they were only letting people do angio (what he was told). I think it can depend on their needs and how desperate they are for the speciality. The just needed a radiologist not a nuero radiologist. It can't hurt to try, you never know what they are going to say!
