Well, my better half has been away at a conference since Thursday night, and will be away until Friday. It's not nearly as bad as I had been anticipating - the kids and I are functioning as a pretty well greased machine.
Though being trapped in the house after hours is a little restricting, the truth is that I hardly get a chance to go out anyway, and it's kind of nice to have things running the way I want, with no interference. We're also spending tons of time outdoors, at least we had been until winter made a small comeback today.
I feel terribly guilty about feeling this way, though. I guess I'll tell her that the house is going to pot and we can't wait until she comes home and fixes things.

It's a strange feeling -- you wish they were home and when they are it can be much like having a guest who doesn't know your systems.

When they are "gone" you wish you had an extra pair of hands and someone to share the load at night -- an adult to talk to....

When the're around you are forced to come to terms with how when you are "#1 in charge" things go much more smoothly and you get to cut out the "discussions about the day."

Yeah, I fight with that too, but I just end up saying "who cares if it goes smooth." Chaos with wife is better then peace without in my book.

Hoever, it does take energy to say, "no, he really like this, and why are you doing that."

Of course all I tell her is that we need her, we miss her, and that it is so much better when she is home.

Actually there is one hard thing - I usually can get some class prep and grading done in the evening, and I now can only do it after the kids are in bed. We had a midterm grade and comments deadline on Monday, so that was kind of tough.
