And so it begins
I feel its only appropriate to start this new blog as we enter a new year in residency. After a blissful year of research (ok, so maybe it wasn’t blissful, but it was a lot better than regular residency), we are headed back in to the tumult that is general surgery residency.
Apparently senior year is the worst and so I am trying to revert to my old way of thinking: Always expect the worst. Its harder than I thought it would be. I used to be able to expect the worst so well. After a year of having weekends off and taking off whenever we need to, we go back to never having any time off, and if we want to make plans, forget it. I always found that if I expected the worst, if it didn’t happen, it was like I had a gift given to me. From now on, it will be a pleasant surprise when DH gets to join me for any event we have.
The first obnoxious thing I quickly forgot about this last year was the schedule. Never knowing when its going to be put up, and then if it is, if its actually going to stick. Its almost mid June now and the July schedule is not up. I am telling myself it probably wont get put up until June 30th. Like I said, expect the worst, and if it gets put up before then, it will be a nice treat. 🙂
So to sum up this post: Expect the worst and hopefully be pleasantly surprised when its not as bad as you thought it could be. In that case, this year is going to be horrific with Q2, not getting any of the vacation days we want, and one cranky ass DH. 🙂 I so hope its not true.
