  • The Hooked on Phonics Miracle...

I just had to share this with you guys......my dad sent us the Hooked on Phonics system for the kids for Christmas....Finny had been mentioning that maybe the "phonics game" could help her because she had been seeing the commercials....we told her this was the phonics game and she has really taken off....she can now (in less than a week) identify all letters but 5....before christmas she was able to identify about 10 or so.....so that is an improvement.....she loves it and she has actually read her first word ~at~ and ~cat~ and has memorized the first story about a fat cat (though she thinks she is reading it ) This has been such an incredible breakthrough for her and we have worried so much about her language skills......it's really a relief...to top it off, we set Andrew up doing a different level...and Alex has learned the letter A....this is really an awesome thing!!!

    Kris,
This is great. With our collective brains on this board, why didn't we think of this????

What a great gift!!! I think the reason I might not have thought of it is because of expense and a slightly slow mind! We used to be able to check it out of the library in Utah all the time because they had so many copies. I noticed our library here has only one and the waiting list is over six months. I would love to own one if I knew for sure it would help my younger kids. I just couldn't justify the cost. I did it with my oldest (when I could check it out from the library) and I thought it was great. I might get my name on the waiting list here and see if I can get it sometime this year!

Kris, I am so glad that it is working for Finny and Andrew. That is awesome. It is so nice when you see that breakthrough and a light goes on! Have fun reading!

        Robin,

We wouldn't have purchased it on our own either....but I'm glad that my dad went for it...maybe you can ask the grandparents? I hope that it continues to work for us....the funny thing is that many of the things in there like cards with letters, words, etc on them are things that we already had from Wal-Mart, etc...but because they came as a part of the "game" they are motivated to do them...go figure!

          Kris & Robin,

Thanks so much for sharing--I would have never thought to look into something like this. Heaven knows my kid doesn't need another toy.

Kris, that is GREAT!!! And what a cool thing for your dad to do. I'll bet he's feeling great about giving something like that.

            Way to go!!!
