  • Favorite, Fun Holiday MEMORIES!!!

At our neighborhood X-mas party, we all told our favorite holiday memory...and it was a hoot to hear what everyone had to say! Lets all share ours!!!

For me, probably the funnniest memory that I have is the Christmas after Thomas and I got married. Andrew was 2 weeks old and I was feeling very "maternal". We had celebrated Christmas on the 24th at Thomas' mom's house and they were all coming to us on the 25th.

My mother-in-law grew up in southern germany...when Thomas and I got married, she actually came to our new apartment with cleaning supplies to "show me" exactly what she expected....if that is any indication of what I was up against...I wanted to create a "perfect" holiday to impress her!

They arrived and everything was going really well....then I pulled the turkey out of the oven and put it on the plate...she went to help me and....the bag of giblets and neck fell out of the turkey I had forgotten to remove them because I'd been so nervous....

I still look back on it and laugh..anyone want me to help them make their turkey this year?

        Oh Kris,
That is so funny. Today is the first day of Hannakuh. My inlaws are here from New York. I wanted to cook a nice meal, and when I showed Jory the menu, he paled. The roast pork tenderloin with cranberry port sauce wouldn't work. I don't know what I was thinking, thank goodness I told him what I was cooking, I had forgotten about the pork thing, because Jory and his family aren't particularly religious, I don't think any of them have been to Temple in 20 years, and I have seen all of them eat pork in a restaurant. I guess you just can't serve pork on a Jewish holiday!!!!! (we'll eat it tomorrow). I guess you can tell I grew up Catholic.

              Luanne-

That's so funny!!! This sounds like a mistake I would make. What did you end up serving in the end?

Oh Egads, Luanne...it sounds exactly like something I would have done...It's a good thing you showed him the menu in advance...can you imagine the look on everyone's face if you had ended up coming out of the kitchen to serve it?

That would have been one for the memory book for sure!!

I ended up serving beef brisket (in the same sauce)!!!! They probably would have eaten it, not said anything, but talked about me for the next 20 years!!!!!
