We had to live in San Antonio for a month a while back while my husband did a rotation at Wilford Hall (on Lackland AFB). I had three kids to entertain (and get out of the teeny hotel room) during the day so we had to find every child-friendly and fun activity there is in that area!!! Here's some of the fun stuff we did (use this list to pump up your kids further!):

San Antonio Zoo (WONDERFUL!!!! - just be sure to bring cash, there's only one ATM machine in this large zoo and it's at the entrance - away from the restaraunts).

The park around the zoo is fantastic (Breckenridge I believe is the name)

El Mercada - total tourist trap (so buyer beware) but it is SOOO fun in a kitschy sort of way (outside of the old section they often have mariachi bands and such on the weekends)

Across from the old El Mercada is a wonderful 24 hour bakery with FABULOSO pastries your kids will LOVE!

    The Alamo!!!

The Riverwalk - with wonderful restaraunts (but there are some awful ones as well so choose carefully!) They dye it green for St. Patty's and they have to dredge it periodically, too.

There is a toy museum downtown

Go up the Tower of the America's (verrrrry tall)

Visit the King William Historical District (where Jenn lives - beautiful restored homes on wooded lots) - especially the Guenther house!

Sam Houston Army Base is open to the public and has gorgeous examples of architecture as well as the Quadrangle - an old fort where they have a petting zoo of sorts with deer and bunnies hopping around demanding food (beware though, the deer are pushy!!!)

    Of course, Sea World!!!

There's a place near Sea World that has the best barbeque on earth (or so swears my husband) - I'll have to ask him the name again.

There's a lizard and snake zoo (that we haven't visited yet) just northeast of the city in New Braunfels.

Every weekend there are some fun and interesting flea markets in New Braunfels.

You can go whitewater rafting (mild stuff) down the Guadelupe - or relax and float along in an innertube!

There is the water park there, of course.

OK, I could go on and on, but these are the first things that popped into mind! Hope this helps win your kids over!!!

Congratulations, Robin! It will be exciting to be somewhere fun and interesting... I have never been to Texas, so I can only dream about it vicariously!

Congrats! Matching is such a wild card and such an exciting time for new beginnings and new adventures. Enjoy!

Congrats Robin! Does this mean you are moving now or next year?

                What a day it was!!!!!

I spent the whole day with my dh and his classmates--from giddy, anxious continental breakfast to dinner with two close friends--one of whom had matched on the coast she least wanted...WHAT IN THE WORLD IS LIKE MATCH DAY?!!

It was so exciting! SO--we are delighted to be off to Providence, which was our first choice. I am so glad now for the time we spent deliberating over the rank list, and for not sending it in until we both felt like this was a list we both loved. I feel so lucky.

I couldn't manage to do up a postcard, but I sent an email to a long list of friends last night. This morning's deluge of responses was a great continuation of the party. Best for me is that I don't have to make a change at work immediately, since I can make the commute for a while at least.

                I can't believe it's over. Of course now it's just beginning...Off to find a mortgage and a place and...yikes!

It was great to think you guys were all waiting to hear as well.

                Cheers to all!
