I'm here and willing to share info, pinkpickles. Might even have some diapers to lend!

Diaper services tend to offer prefold diapers. These are great workhorses, nice and simple and absorbent. You can fold them any way you like to get a good fit for your kiddo, and you can customize absorbency by adding a liner/doubler or even by using two diapers at once.

However, there's a bit of a learning curve. If they're not fastened and folded carefully, you'd better hope you have a cover that fits well (most good covers will hold in almost any poo-plosion, so this isn't much of a worry!)

Doing your own wash opens you to the glorious wide world of modern cloth diapers. Michele gave a great run-down. I might choose a hemp fitted with a wool cover or wrap cover in one situation; a pocket diaper in another. Very importantly the diapers are CUTE. DH almost always reaches for the bicycle diaper and matching cover when he does changes.

We started with the first diaper coming home from the hospital. It was a Kissaluvs fitted with a Proraps cover. My newborn stash had about 7 Kissaluvs size 0 (DH preferred these, the snaps were very straightforward and they fit well and were so fluffy and soft on his tiny baby bum), 12 preemie sized prefolds (great for the first few weeks and then as doublers in the Kissaluvs), 30 infant prefolds, and a handful of bumGenius one-size pockets (these didn't fit for several weeks). Oh, and about 4 newborn covers and 3 or so size small covers, which wasn't enough covers. A few hand-knitted wool covers.

Our stash has evolved over time. Right now I have about six fitteds, 11 one-size pockets, one all-in-one, three or so wrap covers and three or so wool covers, and a dozen premium sized prefolds. I go through 8-12 diapers a day (I'm not sure) and I do a load of diaper wash every day or two so they don't build up -- small loads are easier to get completely clean.

EDIT: Oh, and the question about how long you use them? I've heard that it makes potty learning MUCH easier because the baby KNOWS when they're wet. (Not that they're sitting in a puddle, but the sensation of dampness is more obvious than in a disposable with those weird gel things sucking up all moisture.) If you're like me, YOU also learn a lot about your baby's toilet habits and can time potty trips better because of that.

There are cloth diapers available for the largest child (actually, even up to adult incontinence products) and cloth training pull-ups, etc.

Your DS is not alone, pooping in underwear twin is just across the atlantic ocean! My childminder reassures me he'll get there in the end but can take up to a year after he got the hang of weeing.

My new solution -- I am getting the Seventh Generation diapers from Amazon.com via the subscribe and save (15% off). I'm still throwing away diapers but at least what I am starting with isn't quite as bad. And Fluff, our family will continue to poo fling.

DD is 2.5 and still going strong in her fuzzi bunz and wonderoos!

Re: diaper rash - no concerns here. DD will occasionaly get it if she has a bad poo diaper - but if she has a bad poo she gets a rash whether she is in a disposable at school or a cloth at home. Other than that, we are rash free.

I don't have any input re: potty training as we aren't there yet...I know it can be done though!

Apparently that is the kind of kid Jane and I both have.

At least SHE has a LUSH store to help her over her depression.

Do any of you have any other thoughts after looking at their website (if you have a moment)?

                Thanks.
It looks like this service provides just the prefolds and you have to purchase the covers - either from them or from somewhere else. In my n=1 experience, it was different covers that people recommend you try - not different prefolds. To me, a prefold is a prefold is a prefold. You could purchase a few different covers from ebay, etc. and a few of theirs to see which you like better.

We didn't start trying different covers/kinds until DD was crawling and the covers that we had weren't fitting her body as well. We probably could have made them work - but we were hooked on the fuzzi bunz and all the different colors that they come in. I've met other parents that use prefolds and covers for the entire diapering timeframe.

Oh, and we never used the snappi's that they offer. I couldn't figure them out and we never had a reason to cause we had no issues with the prefold being too loose.

I'll chime in...I've been doing the cloth diaper thing since my DD was 3 months old (she is one now) and have enjoyed it. When she is patient and not screaming during diaper changes, I use prefolds and a cover (lately I've been reaching for my wool). I use a snappi with my prefolds, but I'm trying to figure out pins. I also have a mix of pockets (Fuzzibunz and Bumgenius) which go on a little faster and are good to have when DH is changing her. I still use a disposable at night and when we are out. I'm not that brave.

I love the way the diapers come out of the dryer smelling so fresh. And her little bum is oh-so-cute. But I digress....

I don't know much about diaper services....I looked at that site though, and the cover they sell/recommend is a Bummis cover and I have used those with no problem.

By the way, my DD is modeling a light pink Fuzzibunz pocket diaper in my avator!

Has anyone tried these Bum Genius 2.0?

It seems to me that an AIO would be MUCH easier - comments/suggestions/experience?

                    THANKS!

(Click before you type, Alison! Sorry. )

A pocket diaper is exactly as easy to put on as an AIO to me, because I stuff the inserts as soon as the diaper laundry is done. But the pocket is easier to launder, because the diaper and insert wash more thoroughly and dry more thoroughly when they're separate.

In addition, bumGenius one-size pockets fit a very wide range of sizes, so I don't have to worry about having him grow out and replacing them. I am not sure he'll fit them right through the stated 8-35 lb size range, but he's been in them for 6 months or so and going strong so that's been really convenient.

So Alison do you use the pockets and the BG? Or is a BG a pocket?

Sorry, I know it's confusing and it's mostly my fault -- when Eddy was born the only bumGenius was the one-size pocket diaper. So that's what I think of when I think BG. I always forget they have other products!

So to clarify, all my pockets are bumGenius one-size. I use the Cottonbabies insert that comes with them for daytime; I add two Cottonbabies microfiber doublers for nighttime use.

So is the bamboo fitted (bottom right) a pocket? Or do they not make pockets anymore?
