    Re: cloth diapering

We do cloth wipes but I can see how that would be weird with a service. Does the service not wash them too?

CD'ing could easily become a very expensive hobby. Good thing we don't have any money!

      Re: cloth diapering

I thought cloth wipes would be nasty too. But since I'm washing the diaper anyway, the wipes help fill up the load. But if I was using a service that didn't wash the wipes, I could easily see how it would be easier to throw them away or better yet (if possible) to flush them with the poo.

        Re: cloth diapering

How many wipes would I need? I bought some to try but now I'm chickening out. And how do you use them? Spray solution or do you set them up in a wipes container? I so don't want to go and buy another warmer. I got rid of mine when we moved last year.

So I have been trying all sorts of products.

So far my cd'ing favs have been:
-Indian prefolds; they are softer and fluffier than the Chinese ones I have. I'm starting to get the hang of the snappis.
-Thirsties cover; I prefer them to the Super Brites. Seem "sturdier" and I like the colors.
-Thirsties fab fitted diapers; these things are AWESOME. I have a stash for E, outings, and the sitter (if I ever get out). I was able to pick some up for $9 on their website's "outlet." They are considered seconds but they seem just fine.

I have also tried bumgenius one size AIO, happy heiny's sherpa fitted diaper, kissaluvs fitted diaper, and some other "unknown" brands of fitted diapers. I don't particular for them. The concept of the AIO are awesome but I find stuffing and unstuffing the diaper to be a PIA, especially when adding another doubler which Eóin needs at night. My MIL ordered some snuggleups for me to try out.

What soaps are you guys using? I have some Charlie's soap but Cotton Babies recommends against it due to stories of babies getting burned. They recommended some other brands including liquid 7th generation. I picked some of that up.

No - the service doesn't wash wipes. If I were going to be washing my diapers then I might do it - but since I'm purposefully not planning to the wash the diapers b/c I know that's where I'd lose steam, it wouldn't make sense to do the wipes.

Does anyone know a flushable brand of wipes that A) actually work well and B) actually flush well?

According to the plumber who fished out 6 months worth of flushable wipes from our pipes, "there is no such thing as a flushable wipe. stay away from those things unless you want to see me again in another few months."

              Re: cloth diapering

I use the powdered Country Save, I thought I heard 7th generation isn't good for the polyester part of dipes??

I don't know about a flushable wipe but there are these that I use with some success. But you won't need them until they start eating. Liners

For wipe solution I just use water though I really need to look into a homemade solution b/c Adele's bum is getting harder to clean off with just water.

We've used the same thing for all 4 kids - washclothes soaked with a solution of about 8-10 drops of lavender/tea tree oil (it's available in combo) in about a liter of distilled water.
we wash them on hot - though our hot is not very hot.

                    Re: cloth diapering

I use washcloths too. I also use tea tree oil in water (I don't get distilled, I just use the Brita filtered tap) in a disposable wipe box I took from a friend and let the wipes get wet with that. I send that to the homecare lady for the week. On the weekend, I wash all left over wipes and wash out the box. At home I just use tap water as needed and only wet a few at a time. For outings, I mix water and tea tree oil in the peri bottle and wet the wipes as I need them.

I had about 50 wipes to start....but it seems that either I lost some (very likely) or I just need more, but I just bought about 30 more. I use the Circo brand washcloths (Target) that come in a pack of 6 or 8 or whatever it is. They aren't the softest or thickest wipes out there, but they work fine for us.

I wish I could find the lavender/tea tree oil combo you use Fluff! I buy the tea tree oil at Target.

I keep a solution of baby wash and water in a squeeze bottle (actually the peri bottle that came home from the hospital!) I have a stack of dry wipes (some soft bamboo velour, some scrubby organic cotton terry, some rough cheap baby washcloths -- about 24 total though I think I never washed more than 6 at a time since I don`t wipe pee) and I just squirt, wipe, and go!

Detergent choice comes down to what works for you and your baby. Some babies get raw skin from detergents with enzymes while some mamas use regular Tide with no trouble. Some babies react to Charlies (probably a combination of residue that gets blasted out of the machine by the Charlies and deposited on the dipes, and an individual urine chemistry thing) while other highly, highly sensitive/allergic babies can`t tolerate any other detergent. There are just a few ingredients to watch out for that can cause buildup or damage the elastic and pul waterproof layer of some dipes. Here`s a couple of links I like on choosing detergent.

                      http://www.sunshinediapers.com/cloth-di ... detergent/

Personally, I used Charlies for a year then gave it up because it seemed not to be getting my diapers clean with my ridiculously hard Phoenix water. But I just used it again on a whim (in conjunction with Calgon and White King softeners) and my diapers smell clean out of the washer for the first time in months! I think I`m switching back!

Off the subject, but I never did either with the boys. I assume that will have to change with a girl (I mean, just like I do as an adult, duh). Man - this is going to be complicated!

They are selling Bum Genius at Target! I just saw them there today.

OT, they are also selling really cool 20 dollar leather bibs.

I read that they were going to be doing that. And I have no idea what you would do with a $20 leather bib.

I discovered that Thirsties has an outlet that they sell their seconds, overstocks, and discontinued colors. I have bought from them multiple times and have been very pleased. The "seconds" fab fitted diapers I got were perfect. Their inventory can sometimes change by the hour. Right now they have a ton of overstock covers. Regularly 11.25 selling for 8.75.

I'll have to see if our Target has the BG's - very interesting.
