Looking at the website, I think it is the micronized titanium dioxide and lack of irritants. The vanicream container and website don't say anything about being waterproof, or water-resistant since none of them are really waterproof. Maybe the sport one is? Do your kids use it when they swim, Tara?

eta: some of the aveeno and neutrogena stuff doesn't get a very good "health" rating from them but does get a good sun protection rating.
