Looking at the website, I think it is the micronized titanium dioxide and lack of irritants. The vanicream container and website don't say anything about being waterproof, or water-resistant since none of them are really waterproof. Maybe the sport one is? Do your kids use it when they swim, Tara?

eta: some of the aveeno and neutrogena stuff doesn't get a very good "health" rating from them but does get a good sun protection rating.

I gave up on lotion/creamy sunscreens. We are very fair around here(some may recall that I have a red head w/ blue eyes). Since we have a pool and live in PHX, I need a sunscreen that will stay on, doesn't need reapplying every 2 hrs and is H2O proof. That is why I *heart* the sticks.
The Hawaiian Topic Baby Faces Tender Places 50+ SPF and Coppertone Kids 30 SPF 6 hour waterproof sun block stick* work well for our sensitive uber white skin! I apply the sticks all over and gently rub it in, to ensure there aren't any bare spots.
I have ordered Fallene Cotz sun block products for DH & I. After we give them a try I will let you know how they did!


*the stick I am referring to is not the Waterbabies pink one, it is Teal w/a fuchsia cap(no fragrance).
