  • Bringing Guns to School

Wow..my whole afternoon has been taken up by this issue! Today my children got off of the school bus and announced that a boy on the bus had brought a bbgun to school, had "put a bullet in it", and had pointed it in my son's face and told him that he was going to "kill him" tomorrow after school. 8O We moved to a small town to get away from this kind of thing.

What an incredible shock this is...with everything going on in the world right now, I am beginning to feel a widening gap of despair. After the new terror alerts, tape from bin Laden, and suggestions on Fox News that we wrap our windows in plastic/duct tape, I contemplated actually not sending the kids to school anymore. I know, I know ..I'm such a mess! I just feel...afraid for them. Now today, this really tips the scales. I feel so shocked.

    Kris-

Did you ask what the school was going to do about it? Hopefully that little boy will get the attention he apparently desperately needs. Don't get yourself all worked up about the Code Orange. Honestly, it's impossible to completely 'seal a room'. There would be no air. People are becoming hysterical and really need to step back and listen to what that ACTUAL recommendations were. (all of which are on the redcross.org website)

Your immediate concern should be your son and what exactly is going to be done to address this at the school.

    Keep us posted.

Well, I just got off of the phone with the police dept. again...They found the boy...it was a big electrical screwdriver They have taken the threat seriously though and will be meeting with the police and school district about it.

I'm relieved that it was not a gun....I still feel badly about these kind of threats being made.....but at least we've figured out the source and I can feel like I can safely send them on the bus tomorrow.
