      • Ha. That was weird. My keyboard on the other computer stopped working and it submitted that.

This thread is so fascinating to me.

Our firstborn was going to be named after my husband: Thomas Michael

That is what I wanted. Thomas, on the other hand, wanted to name him Andrew. I really didn't like the name because I had worked with a guy named Andrew who was a jerk ... and he went by the nickname Andy ... another ick for me. I kept saying no. I told him he could pick any other boy name.

When Andrew was born, Thomas got to hold him and see him first. I was post-c-section and ended up sleeping. When I woke up, Thomas told me "he really, really looks like an Andrew....he really does." Irony? DH is German and Andrew was born in Germany. People don't name their kids Andrew in Germany, so how on earth did dh think he looked like an Andrew? LOL They brought Andrew to me and .... you know ... he kind of did look like an Andrew. We decided on a compromise. We named him Andrew Thomas Michael after debating how weird it would be to have 2 middle names. Interestingly, I can't stand the nickname Tom which is what Andrew would have been in America. No one seems to be able to pronounce Thomas the German way around here and I'm not crazy about the english pronunciation. I'm glad we ended up with our Andrew....

Amanda was a tough one for us. We argued about because I wanted to name her ..... either Fionnuala with first name or ..... here it is .... Manderley . See what a weirdo I am? Kelly is going to start calling me Manderley now (after she names her next daughter Ashrey as promised!). When we lived in Northern Ireland (where she was conceived and born), our house was on Manderley Rise. I loved the name of that street and thought it was so beautiful. I settled on Manderley Fionnuala. Thomas refused to let me give her a weird name because he thought kids would tease her about being called Manderley. I thought I would win, but at the end of the day .... she is Amanda Fionnuala. At least I go the Fionnuala. Wasn't I just making fun of people who give their children unusual names.

Alex is Alexander Karl Friedrich following our 2 middle names model. He loves his name and is super proud of it. I can't for the life of me remember how we came up with that mouthful. We had decided to go with our accidental A theme.

Aidan is Aidan Adolf after Opa. We picked the name Aidan while watching Sex in the City. He was the good-looking carpenter.

Zoe is the name that I picked before she was conceived. If she had been a boy he would have been a Zachary. This was my A to Z statement. (Amanda wanted me to start with the B's. LOL). Curiously, Zoe means life. After everything that we went through during the pregnancy, that took on special meaning. Her middle name is Christine. I .... wanted that to name her after my favorite TV character, Christine Cagney. I was a huge fan of Cagney and Lacey and I loved Christine Cagney. LOL The irony is that my mil's first name is actually Christine and she thinks that we named Aidan after her husband and Zoe after her. LOL.

          • I know lots of peeps with two middle names. My friend's daughter is McKenna Chloe Lavonne. Both middle names are the names of my friend's grandmothers whom she was very close with and missed terribly.

            • @Deebs- there is a kid in my daughter's grade named "trout". I think his given name is William. He's very popular. Every year the kids wait to hear the teacher's reaction when he tells her his name is Trout. They have a hard time believing him but all the kids confirm it. LOL. I'd love to know the story behind that naming conversation; I'll have to ask his mom one day. (She works with DH.)
