Um yeah - this is my sister. She got upset about all sorts of redic wedding issues too. Certain things were apparently "her's" - for example, tents lol. She told me I couldn't have one because she had planned to have a tent at her's (she isn't engaged, although she may be soon... But really I can't see why that is at all relevant. It's a freaking tent - lots of people have them). She also still counts our Christmas gifts to see who "won." (she is 25). So obviously she has a couple of issues

I'm glad your friend wasn't swayed by the crazy girl's comment.

    • I have a cousin that I only see once every few years get super pissed at me for naming our son Tyler James. Apparently, those were the names she was planning on naming her non-existent kid. She's a nutball.

My sister (the bratty 25yo) is a first grade teacher - so she usually has fantastic name stories. This year there is a little girl in her class with a totally random placed apostrophe in the muddle of her first name. My sister is having the hardest time trying to explain the proper use of apostrophes to the poor little girl who apparently keeps asking my sister why there is one in her name. I laugh at the stories, but I totally feel bad for the little girl (and her patents that thought it was a good idea to spell her name that way).

Perhaps your cousin and my sister can go to therapy together

          • Yup,my aunt would not let my mom use her middle name as my name because she wanted it for her daughter. She is now 50 with no kids.

            • I would ask my brother before I used his name [Alexander which I LOVE] in case he wants a junior. But my brother isn't crazy and he wouldn't ban me from using it unless he was going to.

When I told my best friend one of our top names, she said that was one of theirs as well [they are starting to try right now], I totally her I would love for our kids to have the same name, I thought it would be cool. And this is a kid I'm going to see a lot. Who the heck cares if kids have the same name as long as they're not actual siblings!

              • Agreed! My BFF and I have the same name. After all these years, it's still confusing every once in a while, but we actually love the fact that we both have it.

My sister kind of has the same name as one of my cousins. My cousin's name is a common nickname for my sister's name. It never struck me as weird!

                  • We didn't name Nikolai- his birthmother did -or the people who were around at the time that he'd lived long enough that he needed a name named him. His original name was Nikolai Leonidovich Kolomokov. We always said that if the Russian name was something cool like Nikolai, we'd keep it. and lo and behold it was. Leonidovich means "son of Leonid" and had there been a Russian version of Richard, we would have used that instead- but there isn't. We kept the Nikolai part- w/ the traditional spelling, even though he has to spell it to everyone and everyone gets it wrong. It's all good. We gave him my grandfather's name as his middle name (Daniel and no- it doesn't flow at all) and saddled the poor kid with Hussey forevermore. (unless he wants to track down Mr. Kolomokov)

The Russian Orthodox Saint name for that time of year is Nikolai- so who knows whether it was the birthmother, the church, a nurse? I still love the name.
